Have several of these to pull apart and tried a release a few on some scrap parts with just a drift, not altogether successfully. Removing the staked in part of the lip still means they are very tight and drifting them out damages the delicate locking ring, and any slip destroys the filter, which is not available. These solenoids are the unique part in this model of ABS pump, so while you can cheaply buy a spare pump for the other parts, the important bit is not to damage these. I was wondering if anyone hear either did this kind of work, or knew anyone close to Dartford, Kent who does. I think ideally it would best a take an existing socket and machine it, with two ramped pin drives for use with a rachet and to be able to apply downward pressure, rather that try and make something like a angle grinder pin wrench. The locking ring is approx 20mm . Thanks

Looks gorgeous. Can I ask a silly question re the interior black paint, is there a paint code or name for that ? Might sound odd , but it looks like the exact sheen I'd like for my own BMW project car. Thanks

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'm in Dartford, Kent. Once in the UK, it shouldn't be too hard to collect. I'm waiting on the seller to get back to me with a quote to ship direct, so will take it from there. He is a friend, so prepared to shop around and do it at cost etc.

I've found a 'new' old stock roof skin for my car in the US. The chances of finding another are pretty much zero, so quite keen to buy. Given the size of the thing once put in to some kinda wooden crate, is there any sensible/economic way to ship it back to the UK ? I remember a guy on YouTube who made car vids talking about a shared container service for importing parts from Japan , is there anything similar from the US ?
Thanks

I need small amount of 1mm wire for a in-tank fuel pump mod. Looked a few suppliers who don't really say a lot regarding fuel, only that some are fuel resistant. Emailed three of them , all of whom were very non comital on the subject so still none the wiser. Anyone got any ideas on what's best ? Thanks

It can be done, lot of work and hassle and not ideal unless you've got space to keep buckets of chemicals kicking around for ages. The American Caswell kit seems to give impressive results. Part 1 of 2

Any of the paint and body guys have an opinion of sunroof deleting ? I'm kinda restoring a car (well, I'll be doing all but the body repairs and paint ) and found the cassette part is rotten. I'm removing this, as at the very least it will need a secondhand replacement sourced, but would ultimately not like a sunroof. But with no new panels available, the other options are a full secondhand roof and unpicking the skin for a full swap, or using the sunroof panel or custom part and welding it closed. Anyone ever do a custom panel or use the sunroof panel ? The car is undergoing a nut and bolt rebuild and I'm trying to get it 100%, plus the cars value would be £70k ish when done, so wanging in a bit a fiberglass skin with a bucket of Tiger Seal is fine for a £1k track car, but would like to be able to document as done properly.

As the owner of an L322 2002 4.4 , I have to be brutally honest and say that isn't worth saving or spending any money on. I would be amazed if the roof was a bolt on panel, guessing that's only for RRs on a ladder chassis though. If the gearbox is perfect or been replaced, find a 4.4 on eBay that's advertised with a dead gearbox and use yours as a parts car and breaker. Such a car will be worth about 1k. Cars showing rust on the rear arches will already have problems with rust on the sill, very possibly structural/MOT failure, although it's hard to see without removing the full length plastic sill cover. 4.4s with noise coming from the timing chain area may have suspect tensioners. Another high labour job that makes a lot of cars an uneconomical repair.

I sought out a gearbox builder who would vapour blast the 3 casings of the Getrag 265 that underwent a total rebuild with them. Having failed to heed the warning signs with this company , I finally got it back back after 10 weeks to find they didn't bother to do this, so now need to paint the gearbox myself. The ally cases have been in a parts washer, so at least free of oil contamination, but will probably have oily finger prints all over them. Can anyone recommend a process and what paints to use on this to make it last ? I've seen a few people use VHT temp silver paint with a clear coat which does at least look good when done, but wondering how long rattle can paints will hold up. Anyway, any thoughts welocme. Thanks

I love an SD1. Please tell me though you have a 700bhp LS crate motor on order to fulfill my fantasy SD1 build . Dreaming a little there, great project car though.

My fave thread on RR - a car I long to own, a home restorer who does body, paint, mechanical, wood and leather, and all with outstanding results.

Thanks all. Some food for thought on all three places. Had a look at the CTS FB page and see they did an M3 box in March with nicely vapour blasted casings too, which look a very neat finishing touch.

Any recommendations on a Getrag specialist to do a full rebuild on a 265/5 box from a BMW E30 M3 ? Ideally in the south east of the country . Thanks

That's a lovely old BMW to own and bring back to rude health - very jealous. Your plating shop does really nice work. Quick question on the Pierburg valve thingy that's been done, I noticed it has electrical connections,so wouldn't the acid pickle and plating mess that part up ?

Funky little cars. Have you seen the Turbo Tom's Garage series on YouTube where he buys one ?
