The 2.5hr drive ended up being 3.5hr but still OK. Google maps seems to be lying to us quite often lately. We got to the site and got ourselves set up. Even managed a couple of loads of washing too. Then we headed out. Caught the free bus that goes around the city and I must say Adelaide is a beautiful place with some stunning architecture. Coopers brewery do some good beers so we headed to their original alehouse for some cold snacks and a bit of snap. The last few laps of Bathurst were on with Holden getting its last ever win before Gen3 comes in next year. After having the Captiva I'm a closet Holden fan. Cheers everyone, enjoy your Sunday. Ooroo.

Updates are cool. And you are fortunate to have a great travel companion too, or is she the lucky one? Coober Pedy sign is a great memento. I’m definitely the fortunate one Rian. She’s blummin amazing that one and does well to put up with me.

Great pics again, is that you part way up the mineshaft?? 😱 There's a good documentary about the Ghan on one of Chris Tarrants extreme rail journeys, covers the abandoned trains too. Bought anything from that scrapyard as a momento to bring home? 😆 No it’s not me but I would’ve given it a go given the chance. This is me doing some bloody flying trapeze thing in Perth that the wife’s friend bought us for our 50th!

Actually here's a few photos from the 700km drive. First up one of the old Ghan locos. They used to be narrow gauge. Then just out if Alice we turned onto the Stuart Highway. Not very often Google maps tells you to stay on thus road for 674kms! No roundabouts, junctions, nothing. This was where we stopped for fuel just before the South Australia border. After that it was just foot down towards Coober Pedy and the slight edginess described above. OK, more tomorrow. Ooroo.

Didn't have time to do my update yesterday. Was a bit a bit of a hectic day. It started off OK with a McDonalds breakfast as we walked over to pick the camper up. Spotted this TR7 at Pedro's car sales with bonus Subaru Brat action in the background. There was an old truck further down the street too. We picked up the camper, I dropped the wife at Woolies to get some supplies whilst I popped back to the motel to get our bags. Once we were reunited we set off on the longest leg of our road trip. 700km and 7hrs from Alice Springs down to Coober Pedy. We had done about 250k when we came upon the first roadhouse and with a third of a tank left I decided to top her up. Diesel was about 90c a litre dearer than in Sydney! We set off again and I was sure we wouldn't need to stop again so passed the next roadhouse and kept making tracks. It was after a while I noticed the fuel gauge seemed to be dropping quicker than the kms. My thoughts went from We've got enough to get there easy We'll probably be fine I'll fill it up at the next stop There's not another stop It's going to be tight curse word.... We coasted into the camp site in the pitch black with the gauge on empty. Hooked up to the electric, got a few things squared away and decided to head to the nearest pub for a few beers and some snap. Unfortunately it was 9pm and it had just closed so we found the Italio Australian Miners Social Club which was still open but not doing food. Couple of beers were downed and then back to the camper for bacon butties and a cuppa before bed. I slept the sleep of the dead! More tomorrow. Ooroo.

Fantastic pics! Years ago a mate took pics of the rock in 15 minute intervals at sunset, the colour changes were amazing. I did a time lapse over just short of an hour tonight but didn't get those colour changes you sometimes can here.

Had a go with the phone tonight. Used a 20 second exposure and iso 800. Not bad but the moon was a bit too bright.

Stars over the rock near sunset/sunrise can be stunning. Make sure you find a chance to be outside somewhere out there where there is no light pollution, the night sky can be incredible. A long drive is a relative thing here in Australia. I've done a few charity rallies around the country (Shitbox Rally). On one occasion we drove Melbourne to Adelaide in a day, then Adelaide to Uluru to Fremantle in a week, all in a very ropey UK import S2 XJ6 I've sent my camera back to the UK with the shippers but going to give it a whirl on my phone. I did get some great night sky photos up at Mission Beach in FNQ.
Ooroo.

Not too early a start saw us head off to the airport. After being raped by Jetstar for excess baggage charges we had a 3.5 hr flight to this spot. I was last here 20 odd years ago and I wasn't that impressed then. It is nice n warm though so that's good. The room wasn't ready so popped to the bar and thought grizz had beat me there. Going to try and get a decent sunset shot of the rock so catch you later folks. Ooroo.

So yesterday we decided to visit a few old haunts seeing as the weather was good. First up we got the bus over to Manly with a pitstop for a couple of beers and some snap. I got served the largest Parmi I’ve ever seen. Then it was the ferry over to Watsons Bay for a beer before heading on another ferry to Rose Bay and a beer in the RSL (Returned Services League bit like the British Legion) Last ferry ride saw us head to Circular Quay and another beer before heading back to the hotel for the NRL Grand Final. Orono.
