The one thing I've learnt over the almost 12 years with my missus is that it's never dull. We had a leisurely last morning in Airlie, a quick snap time beer and then caught a taxi to the port to get the 14:20 ferry back to Hamilton for our flight to Sydney at 15:35. Got to the port to at 13:30 to be told we should've been on the 12:15 ferry. We'd mixed up the departure and arrival time. curse word. We need that flight. Only option was another taxi to Shute Harbour and a $450 private water taxi to Hamilton so that's what we did. Massive hit in the wallet but what a blast. The pilot absolutely gunned it all the way across. Got there at 14:40 and a 10 minute sprint with 2 suitcases each saw us checked in and bloody lathered! Even had time for a cold beer before boarding.
Ooroo.

We caught the ferry from Hamilton over to Airlie Beach where we've been for a few days. We've been here before and it's a great little spot. Very chilled out.
Here's a quick time lapse of the ferry trip from Hamilton to Daydream Island.

I've eaten roadkill goose and swan. Very old pic of children with swan, they're 17 and 19 now. Geez that is a big bird!

Weather warnings have made the news in the UK, so it must be bad if it's pushed the football off headline news! Are you swimming yet? 😱 It’s not been too bad in Melbourne but I think further North in Victoria and in NSW places have flooded. Anyway we’re out of here tomorrow and catching the big bird in the sky up to the Whitsundays.

As you may have seen previously there's some wonderful old(ish) traditional architecture left in the towns and cities throughout Australia. Melbourne is not to be outdone. Got this beautiful example from the apartment window. Simply stunning and sums Melbourne up for me. Steady day today and staying off the alcohol as pretty sure I've had a drink everyday for the last 3 weeks since we left the Sunshine Coast. My body is giving me warnings about it! Ooroo.

When not funny and quite funny. Trust the next 18 hrs were better. Ooroo (not sure what I said) We were laughing about it and the lady on reception was absolutely brilliant. She even brought us a bottle of wine up to say sorry. We're going to give it to her when we leave for being so amazing. Ooroo is an Aussie toodleoo. They shorten everything the lazy buggers!

We had a late (11am) checkout yesterday and fortunately when we got to the new place we've got for 3 nights the room was ready which was great as we had loads of bags. We got all squared away, kettle on, feet up. Nice. Wife put a load in the washer and TV was on. Relax. Now, the washer and dryer are in a cupboard in the bathroom just behind the bathroom door. The bathroom door open inwards the cupboard door opens outwards towards the bathroom door. The washer was hallway through its cycle, spinning away and started clonking a bit. Be reyt, turn the telly up. Went back to washing and it's fine. Spin cycle again and it's clonking more so I went to check and I can't open the bathroom door. Not even an inch! Tried forcing it but no bueno. The washer with the drier on top has bounced its way out of the cupboard pushing its door against the bathroom door and sealing the bathroom. Only us! Went to reception and told them and apparently it's not only us as it happened last week but it'd bounced even further out so they could open the door. We needed a longer washing cycle. After much discussion brute force was deemed the only option so the maintenance bloke got to it with a jemmy. Luckily it wasn't a solid wooden door. Hoping for a less eventful last couple of days here. Ooroo.

Yesterday started out with a plan in place which swiftly went to sh1t. Started off well with the obligatory bacon butties and mugs of tea before packing everything up and hitting the road. The plan was to drive to the apartment we've rented for 4 nights, drop all our stuff off and then take the camper back. Uber back from the drop off point to the apartment was looking about $75 so not too bad. About half 10 we got a call asking if we'd already picked the keys up. We were 200km away so it wasn't us. They'll get back to us... They rang us again about 12 to ask us if we'd already picked the key up. Derrrr... We got to Melbourne and decided as we were early to pick up a bit of shopping and a few gifts for people we are meeting here. Got that done and about to head to the apartment when we get another call saying its not been cleaned yet but we can drop our stuff off. Someone will meet us there.... Get to the apartment block, nobody there. Get on the phone, go through all the explanation, put on hold, finally told we can't leave our stuff so will need to take it to the drop off with us.... 50 minute drive later we drop the camper off. Very efficient Apollo, thank you. All our gear meant an Uber XL and the delay meant rush hour so cost gone up to $160! Not much choice on the matter so off we headed. Another call, on hold for 20 minutes, to tell us its still not ready and they don't know when it will be. Right, give us a full refund and we'll book somewhere else. No, they'll refund us for that night and we can get in for the next 3. No, refund it all. I'll need to see what I can do and call you back... No call back so we booked somewhere for 1 night. Got to the new place, dumped our stuff, quick wash then out to meet one of the wife's colleagues who'd invited us to their home for the evening. In the meantime we had it confirmed it's a full refund so we've booked another place for the other 3 nights. Grrrr just when you want to relax you get pi55ed around by incompetent fools!
Anyroad, rant over. Have a quick video of the Great Ocean Road which is the worlds largest war memorial.

To be honest, I don't think there ever were 12 apostles there. If you decide to stop in Geelong for a breather pop in and say hi at The Reimaginarium Looks like a cool shop you've got. Unfortunately due to time constraints we had to take the ring road and head straight to Melbourne.

You're not wrong Grizz. Tomorrow is the last leg where we drop the van off in Melbourne but that's not the end of the trip.... 😉 We’re about to get a lot of rain over Wed and Thurs so bring your wellies! The emergency app is already dishing out the warnings. Yes heard the forecasts on the radio and all the flood warnings. Hoping it's not too bad tomorrow.

Yesterday was a 450km drive from Adelaide to Mt Gambier through some lovely South Australia countryside. We did see one of the painted grain silos of which there are about 6. When we got to Mt Gambier we didn't go straight to the site but went for a neb at Blue Lake which is in the crater of an old volcano just out of town. Once we got set up we had a wander down the road to look at a cave garden which is smack bang in the middle of town behind the old Town Hall. Love all the old original architecture. Popped to the pub which had a very grand entrance. Couple of beers were imbibed before heading back to the van for some tea and a couple more relaxers before bed. Mount Gambier is a very nice town. Ooroo. This is really the trip of a lifetime. You're not wrong Grizz. Tomorrow is the last leg where we drop the van off in Melbourne but that's not the end of the trip.... 😉

Love that pub carpet. And the wallpaper, or is that the same carpet extending up the wall? No it's wallpaper Igor. To be fair the pub was really nice and modern. We went in through the hotel entrance then into the pub. It was a really big place combined.
