I've found that people who do these listings are not interested in selling anything for less than say £50 so small bits are out of the equation. I sort of get it because as a money maker they just want to rip out the items they will get £100s for and then it's gone and onto the next one . I'm guessing this especially applies to the sort of person doing it in there yard etc.

Yes I thought the torquey spec might be of interest . I believe the chap who wrote it trades as penguin motors in Ely , Cambridgeshire. Excellent thread .

Maybe the original engine was lower compression being a transit engine ? Didn't they only have 85_90bhp compared to the 100 odd that Capri, Cortinas etc had ?
Also if you want a good read about a budget tuned pinto , Google ' A pinto called Dave '.

It'll be interesting to see how much damage is caused to a engine that produces mainly water in the combustion chamber. We're already seeing the results of whatever curse word they're putting in modern diesel, I assume methanol rememants from the biodiesel mean there is water present or similar. Rotten exhaust valves and valve seats is very common. I can't see how hydrogen would be any better, short of having some sort of post ignition off WD40 cylinder injection system. Guessing it will be for new proprietary engines so they will design them differently to traditional engines in some way I guess ?

If that bow shackle is in the bin there will be a reason ,it's the best place for it. Lifting gear is cheap anyway.

That's why I hate the car salesmans term ' solid' . Literally ' I can't actually SEE any holes ' . Translation- There probably are holes but I've purposely not looked to hard to find any , and of course they might just be behind that underseal or on the crispy bit that's not broken through the paint.

The crackdown on car ownership by the powers that be makes me uncomfortable. Everything you need to know about freedom in this country can be learned from the Battle Of The Beanfield. Which reminds me I meant to start a "Travellers Buses" thread after the "dogs on string" conversation at Weekender. Ironic it's the left pursuing this now though with X/r , stop oil etc now.

A friend of my older brothers has had a good few GSI in his time, both hatches and saloons before stopping on an MSD tuned phase one which he poured a lot of time into to making very tidy indeed, he did the same with his Corsa GSI before that which was supercharged. He struggled with rust on each of the different chassis. He had a supertouring special edition for a brief while too which was a V6. My uncle also had a black saloon V6 gsi, Which in his opinion was the only one worth having because that's the chassis (saloon not hatch) used in btcc, he's in an ST220 now though he always was a ford man. Quite thirsty from memory, he also went through tyres and the car was starting to show its age, this must have been 2011-2013, I'd like one and have had a good few in my eBay saved for a long while, I used to live the irmsher estates with square exhausts, I don't recall many other cars having those at the time and I'd be really surprised if many cars still retain them given theyd probably all have been replaced now. I don't have anything more factual or of insight to add other than YES go for it! I went to the warehouse where they converted standard GSIs into MSD ones , they had a giant skip full of standard recaro seats they took out slashed with a Stanley knife !

{sigh} Triple C ... stares into the distance with a slightly glazed expression ... I never understood why triple c ended and it had to morph into ppc . I admit I'd stopped buying it a bit before that as it had already started to water down its content. I bloody loved ccc , it's where I learnt about cars as a kid , I loved the at the clinic features as well as Dave walker.

It’s actually an edwards box and pan, but the terms end up being fairly interchangeable within the trade. I thought it was a box and pan folder , never heard the two terms used differently in 26 years in the fabbing game .

I don't think manufacturers wanted to get on board with it because they couldn't see a reason too- as said it wouldn't result in a crossover into car sales. Also it just seemed very American to me , I can certainly remember seeing it in CCC and not being interested.
Another factor to add in is the effect of 9/11 on global business and hence sponsorship and the spare change they had to throw at motorsport. Businesses where a bit apprehensive of doing much until they knew which way things were going .

Welding downhill is going to be a struggle for anyone so don't beat yourself up about if. Perhaps try up hill even if you can only do say 15mm a time . Perhaps use an airline to cool between welds and/or a wet rag.

The new TIG welder has arrived and after spending a bit of time experimenting with settings, I'm pretty pleased with it. My only reservation is the weight of the torch which is good for 200Amps and able to cope with the welder on maximum power but an overkill for welding thin aluminium. It has a flexible head which is great for getting in a comfortable position. You can get smaller/shorter ceramics for the front as well as a shorter back cap. I'm with you in hating them like you have , it makes them unwieldy.
