I am currently in the same boat, best i found last year was upto £3000 worth of equipment and tools. However this year they wont cover me. (another issue I have with the house insurance is the proximity to trees and water/stream) However this year a curve ball on most insurers was the garage had to be 100% brick!! mines an oak construction tiled roof garage and none of the companies offering anything decent on garage cover would touch the wooden construction. I'm still looking at this very moment. keep us informed if ya get sorted bud I'm just in the process of building a oak frame garage Spent an hour this morning trying to sort insurance again and all of the companies that quoted me were insistent the garage had to be 100% brick, however an outbuilding 'shed' is covered but only upto a contents value of £1000 so pointless really.

I used CG Motorsport to make me a clutch a few years ago. It was a Nissan 350Z gearbox to a Golf VR6 flywheel mounted to a 1.8T VAg engine. They were very good and dealt with the strange combination very quickly and it was reasonably priced too.

Had a call off my dad Sunday to inform me 'we' needed to collect this latest ebay purchase in the next week. So Monday afternoon I hitched up the trailer and went to collect it. Its been laid up since 92 in a barn in flinthsire, the chap my dad purchased it from dragged this and other cars to his mates in whitchurch where we collected it from. Its all there and complete, just complete with plenty of rust. As if I havent got enough to work on. I've dropped it to my dad I cant touch it until next year as the garage is rammed with other projects at the moment. Plans are for it to have a full restoration with a new drop side bed.

a 205 gti 1.9 in Miami blue.
Also a Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider.
Fast forward 15+ years and I did (wife did) own a red 205 gti 1,9 road rally car. Was a right laugh to throw round but really underpowered in comparison to more modern basic cars. Loved it for the 3 years we owned it

The estate Agent works for you, your their customer, ask them to emphasis the garage in the description. Perhaps not in massive details but mention some of its features,
I'm yet to meet an estate agent with any vague interest in cars, and my wife works with loads of them.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll give up on the jigsaw idea then. I bought some Metabo discs and a Dewalt diamond disc (for curiosity) earlier and right now I'm trying to talk myself out of/justify buying one of those Cut50 plasma cutters off eBay. An idea of the shapes I need to cut are below, which is why I was thinking of a jigsaw. A little fella in red on my shoulder is suggesting getting one with pilot arc as I've got to cut out some TR6 sills and a plasma cutter is ideal... just as an idea- Ive not purchased from these but gives you a clue as to the cost and time implications and the feasibility. www.turborebuild.co.uk/webshop/prod_5659243-Turbo-to-Downpipe-Outlet-Flange-Subaru-EJ20-TD04-Turbocharger-9mm-Stainless-Steel.html

you will struggle to cut that out neat enough with a 1mm disc, as for a diamond disc I was under the impression they are for stone not metal. If I was you I would contact a local laser cutters, Ive just brought a stainless 12mm thick vw 1,8t head flange for £40, perfect fit and not worth the hassle of trying to replicate. There are plenty of online places which will sell that flange. (search for exhaust building parts in google)

Well spotted Darkspeed , I should have looked better. Anyway, completely out of my budget unless alecf can tell me where they sell them for £50. They claim the cheap eBay one can do up to M10 as well, I wonder what the max diameter for stainless rivnuts is. I got it from a local tools and fastening company, they sell a lot of teng gear, They don't have a website or anything like that, Ill give them a bell and ask them

well worth the extra pennies. No doubt, but at £244.80 they're slightly out of my budget. The no-name eBay ones are just £28.79. Must be looking at a different one to me, Mine was around £50ish

On the car, yes, I’m very excited by this thread. I have a hankering for a TT now that they’re so cheap. 225 horses for sub 1k? I’m in As for grinders, I had a circular brush in mine, and having unplugged it to change over I plugged it back in without realising the switch was on. It proceeded to leap around all over the place like a demented dog before I managed to unplug. I scared myself so badly I locked up the workshop and didn’t go back for 2 days!! Much renewed respect for the grinder!! Back to the TT You need one with the BAM engine code to get 225bhp. The BAM 'scene tax' is a load of old cobblers, they fetch a premium for that very reason. All 1,8t engines from stock will produce 225bhp, its the turbo and exhaust manifold along with the injectors that differ. (as well as the map) A 225bhp K04 turbo 1,.820vt turbo completely stock will map to 270ish easily. However all 1,8t engines run with marshmellow rods. anything more then a map get some forged rods. I'm running a 1.8t with a few select modification and a bigger turbo with 486bhp, there are hundreds of them in the uk between 600-800bhp. As for the 225 for under 1k. another engine I built for my last car, included a full bare block rebuild, forged rods, new rings, bearings, Inconel exhaust valves (the standard 2 piece heads like to fall over with high egt's) bigger injectors, 2.0lt tfsi k04-064 turbo made just over 330bhp and cost me around £1100ish. there cheap reliable power (if done right)

The bigger one was great. Worked really well and easy to do. Worth a buy. Thanks, that's the one I meant. I'll get one ordered. Ive had a teng one for about 6 years and its been brilliant, well worth the extra pennies. (warranty and quality)

Timely thread, it’s sort of something me and that there HoTWire were discussing on insta. My latest discovery is these- A way better marking tool than anything I’ve ever used. Will write straight through WD40! I’ve now bought the red version as well (red riter) as it shows up better on bright steel sheet, and thrown all my cr@ppy sharpies and paint pens in the bin. Had seen these and thought they looked useful replacement for marker pen but wondered how long they actually last in regular use and how easy/often they need re-sharpening? Went and brought one after reading this thread last week. got it delivered yesterday so a night in the garage tonight to see how good it is

Is it for your own cars or to use on customers? I have a copy Delphi unit which was about £50 I think, about 4 years ago. Its been brilliant. From testing individual components to fault code reading and logging. its been used to reset service lights 9once serviced I will add) brake warning lights etc on modern BMW's, worked on a fault code on the wifes RR evoque. And many a time on my vag engine 1.8t vehicle. For the price I have been more than impressed Its for my own cars Id recommend the Delphi copy, Used it again this weekend on the wifes Evoque did everything I needed

on the subject of floor paint, having spent a fortune on floor paint in my old unit for it to look tatty in less than 12 months, I decided when building my garage at home to tile it. Best decision Ive made, antislip porcelain tiles, they have taken a beating with just 2 or 3 small marks (dropped a large trolley jack on one and a gearbox on another) the cost was a a lot less than having a company lay the commercial grade epoxy and looks great.
