Thank you all for the info. Could I wire 240v delta and use a 240v output vfd (like in the YouTube video) or is the only option to either get rid of it or change the motor? Thank you, Pete I have just installed this exact VFD (4KW) on a 4 poster fitted with a 1.5kw motor. (being a Chinese unit, I wanted to over spec the VFD just in case!) You will need to change the motor configuration to delta in order for it to work correctly. I can't make out for sure from your photos but if that motor is a 3hp, you may struggle to find an affordable VFD to work with it. Then of course, it would be best connected to the DB board via it's own breaker with the cable rated at around 4x the motors amperage. Here lies a problem that the Chinese VFD's don't have lugs large enough to accept the larger cables. I used 4mm cable and that was a tight fit but managed it.

It's a funny ol thing mental health. The amount of things which can trigger a bad bout of it seem to be so much more than the good times which can bring us out of it (if that makes any sense). For me being able to focus on building Auto Distraction even over the miserable Scottish winter months, has helped tremendously this year. Despite the challenges, being around like minded guys has been a proper blessing who are more than happy to have random car related stories and experiences to share. In what seems to be a total contradiction, I for one have also been of late, really knocked back by current affairs and how family have almost been put into boxes as to which "side" they align themselves with and the popular notion that if I dare disagree or challenge you, I'm wrong and they are right. I bring this up as it really has been very depressing trying to deal with challenges like this.(think UK & USA politics & the middle eastern situation)
I guess we all have a bucket full of issues which may trigger a downward slide depending on where we are in life. It's up to all of us to have an open ear towards others and do the best we can to also help ourselves.

brachunky - thanks for watching! Yeah it's not the most solid motor vehicle I've owned! I'll sort it though This is still one of the cars I'd like to own one day but to get a really nice one means saving up for some time or........I need to learn how to weld well

Jaywick fuel station taken in 1932 and photographed again in 1986. I know the current owners who have owned it for many years.

Brachunky, did you manage to get any success with this? I’ve had a look at mine, it’s a different brand of motor from yours, however the rest of the setup looks the same. Eyup! I went for the 4kw invertor/converter in the end which incidentally arrived yesterday. The ramp is partially fitted (going to hopefully complete this week) and then it's onto the lecky stuff.

Just to add, as the motor is only 1.5kW can you not just change it for a single phase version? 1.5kW is only around 6.5A so not a huge load, even direct on line the in rush should be ok on a type C or D circuit breaker. It's a pity the Clarke unit excludes car hoists as it would have been the least "intrusive". A motor change makes sense but I would need to swot up on mountings and shaft sizing etc. There is apparently, the matter that the 3phase motor would be matched to the pump so fitting a replacement single phase motor could require a pump change too. Something to look into as from my limited point of view, it's either a motor change or a suitably sized inverter.

Um, probably. You’ll need to arrange the links in the motor terminal box for 220v (delta) there’s likely a sticker in the lid showing it. As for the inverter, the challenge will be getting enough current for the starting torque. Going up a size with te largest possible overload capacity is the way to go (2.2 or even 3kW for the 1.5 kW motor at least 150% overload). There’ll likely be some witchcraft involved in the inverter set up too but I reckon it should be possible to make it work. Point taken, There's a 4kw version which would be a safer bet. I watched a video of a guy in the states using one for a milling machine who explained the witchcraft of which you speak!

We will hopefully start fitting the lift at Auto Distraction H/Q some time this month and although I will play a lesser role in it's installation, I need to get the kit together to get things going. As mentioned in a thread elsewhere, the lift is currently wired for 3 phase and this requires some electrical magic to power it from our available single phase. With limited funds, we will most likely have to go down the chinese type converter/inverter route commonly seen on on the likes of ebay. Am I correct in thinking something like this will do the job being about a third more in capacity than the motor it needs to power ? Whats the "variable frequency" all out? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404712282868The motor in question:

Laters , all I can say is I understand & wish you heartfelt good wishes with ye health. Tis funny how we fobbed off the old folk when they went on & on about how important one's health is. Like others, the ongoing mental pressure is something I need to balance very carefully especially after starting Auto Distraction & becoming a partner in a new but small business. I'm hoping they will bring much motivation and an element of excitement to the new year. My poor Chevy had very little work done to it last year hence me doing a poor show with it's build thread but fingers crossed I get spare time to crack on!

A huge milestone for us today as a group of local chaps volunteered their time and warmth of their homes to brave the rank rain. 4 poster collection day! The original plan was to to do two trips and move the uprights and then the dismantled main bed from the collection point back to the unit but plans do change The owner of the trailer was confident in it's ability to move the lot in one move so seeing as the rural roads were pretty quiet, we decided to lift the complete bed onto the trailer, strap it down and get the job done! Once loaded, we headed back to the unit to get the 2.7m wide bed through a somewhat narrower roller shutter door. Obviously finished off with coffee & cake! Hopefully get it installed during January ready for use

Try use as much thin wall wiring as you can as it will really reduce the "girth" of the loom. Another idea I have seen to identify same colour wires are those little numbered bands, I would imagine very similar in size to what is fitted to a pigeons foot.

So we are a few months in and it's certainly been a learning curve! From an user involvement angle, it's been a bit slower than I would have liked but have to keep matters in context. Some of the challenges are certainly being in a rural location, the creeping wetter & colder weather and actually getting the word out. Social media has been a big help in spreading the word but it don't reach everyone. The plan is to get posters and leaflets out as spring approaches and make sure we are at the very few local car shows over the summer. There has been a nice regular bunch of folk calling in with some young lads & lasses spending time learning about their cars and doing some basic maintenance which has been fantastic to see. We have also been talking to the local NHS community link to help link folk to our service as well as local Men's Shed groups. It's gonna take time but we are super excited about making a difference! This weekend see's a bunch of lads partially dismantle a used Bradbury 4 post lift and get it back to the workshop ready for installation during January which will be a huge boost to the tool kit. As before, we would love your support on our FB page (link below) and If you are able, send a cheeky donation on our Just Giving page Cheers Martin www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/martin-plant-1?utm_term=XW8EMn6p3
