Thanks, that's a good idea. Sorry for inflicting my market research on you (and anyone else with an opinion on this who may be reading), but what would you consider 'top' to be? Best pic? Most interesting back story? Most unusual? Oldest? Weirdest? Any thoughts welcome! Rather than a "top" because everyone's opinion differs, what about a "most unusual" or "oldest" as you say. Pick the 20 (or more) strangest locations and/or stories that you've found and compile those Or pick the 20 (or more) oldest ones Ones that can fill a couple of pages each with a good story and pics Maybe find one or two others that aren't featured elsewhere just to give the book a little bit of uniqueness? Just thoughts. Thanks, that's a good idea! My book about weird drinks is, in my opinion, the funniest thing I've written. I hope to flog a few for christmas - www.amazon.co.uk/Killer-drinks-compendium-lethal-alcoholic/dp/B08VR7VCXM

Definitely do a compilation, and maybe a top 20? Thanks, that's a good idea. Sorry for inflicting my market research on you (and anyone else with an opinion on this who may be reading), but what would you consider 'top' to be? Best pic? Most interesting back story? Most unusual? Oldest? Weirdest? Any thoughts welcome!

Bit of a bump! I am surprised, and very happy, that people are still buying these books. I am thinking of making a compilation of the best bits, as it currently runs to five editions to cover different regions of the UK and I appreciate they're not cheap books to buy (I make a pittance as royalties, have not yet covered my costs, but I love the feedback and seeing people buying my work direct). Link to Amazon here where you'll find my work. www.amazon.co.uk/SUPER-interesting-abandoned-stations-Midlands/dp/B08LGMR1PX/ref=sr_1_4?qid=1691499217&refinements=p_27%3AMr+Rich+Duisberg&s=books&sr=1-4 What do you guys think? I wonder if there's any appetite for a "best of Britains abandoned garages" book? Have a picture of a petrol station which is now, well, something altogether different... Your thoughts welcome on a compilation book

I spotted this a few times, but not recently, and now without MOT so the news can't be good as it was pretty scabby...

Anyway, 24 hours later, we were stood on the podium celebrating with the "judges choice" trophy. We'd finished midfield overall and maybe 20th or so in our class (something like 120 cars overall). Judges choice is like the trophy they give the fat kid on sports day for managing to tie the shoelaces on his own supermarket brand trainers. We didn't care, we got drunk, sang the national anthem, and vowed to return. So in October, this year, we're returning with a plan to be a bit less sh*t and have a lot more fun. It is an awesome event and I recommend it to anyone. (I wrote a feature on this for Alternative Cars magazine, and Classic Retro Modern magazine, by the way).

It didn't start well, on the Friday shakedown the car sprang an oil leak so serious we couldn't ignore it, so we did an all-nighter drinking and spannering and fitting a slightly less knackered engine we found on a pallet 50 miles away. The leaders were already 80 laps down the road before we'd turned a wheel. I did the first stint, nearly strangling myself with the harnesses and HANS and helmet. The circuit is a NASCAR circuit (I'm in a c.120bhp MX5) with an outfield section like a mini Cadwell park. MASSIVE fun. Also (caps again for emphasis) MASSIVEly intimidating. I got overtaken by a 7 litre Caddy with a chandelier on the roof, a massive Ford sedan with a spoiler made from antlers, and a TR8 held together with a million rivets. Then there's the usual trackday E30 and E36 driven by mental people.

Arise, old thread! I was about to start a new thread on this, but then found this one, and thought I'd share my adventures with RR. I thought I'd done this before but, well, I am old, knackered and thick. Our team won 24 hours of Lemons, judges choice, in October 2022 in NH, USA. Team was 6 Brits and 1 Yank, the car was a dreadful MX-5 that would have been treated more kindly if Katie Price had owned it for a year. Anyway, pics? To echo the posts above, what appeals is the self-deprecation of the event, the fact you get rewarded for racing junk and penalised for driving anything too fancy, and that there's a bodge it mentality required to race over 24 hours. I'd done loads of track days and a bit of rallying in Europe, but wheel-to-wheel racing is bloody terrifying, frankly. I love the 'crapcans' we encountered on track (mostly overtaking us, it has to be said).

No idea what these are, Eastern bloc maybe. There is a third buried behind the one on the left. On the left is one of the best, early hot hatches ever made.

One of my favourite pics from the Midlands and North of England issue of the book. This place was a timewarp.

Do this. Do this with a BMW drivetrain to stick 2 fingers up at the purists and beards. I am a purist and a beard. And I still want you to do it. Pics, man, PICS!

I still have the Wooden MotoPunk emblem sat in my hallway, from when you hosted the magazine’s introduction at the Morgan factory . I've got one sat on my desk! Morgan kindly gave us the wood (ash) used on their car bodies, and a local college CNC'd the logo. I loved that day, great to meet people and kick off something special together. Ah well, back to the daily grind elsewhere... thanks again

I have all 4 of these mags. Definatly a great read. I often get distracted in the garage when I get it down off the shelf. It was a shame that it never carried on. I too still think print has a place today. There are lots of good mags still around. The monthly thing I think has run its course. It shows in the quality of the content sometimes. A lot of the mini magazines I used to get repeat every few years, the same with Land Rover owner international. I only ever buy these if they have a car or an article I like. One mag I love to get is the Overland journal, comes out seasonaly and is a great read. I think that's the way forward, less often and an more quality content. Or even annually, imagine the Motorpunk annual. That would be awesome. PPC annoyed me when they gave up on the blue mk2 escort. And one of the writers just buying project cars and never working on them. Not to mention the woeful proof reading. I also remember a buyers guide that half way through just Finnish halfway through or had parts from the previous months buyers guide. In the start it was great but for me went to curse word and I stopped buying it. I have the first four motorpunk as well - loved the content even if the subject matter didn't fit into my "car interest" for me that was the success of it - tdk and his team could write about something I had no interest in and I'd still enjoy it I still have a motorpunk sticker in the back window of one of my cars and the motorpunk t-shirt is probably my most worn after my 2008 RR Gathering one That's very, very kind of you to say so! Thanks! My rubbish books are on Amazon under Rich Duisberg, if you're a real motoring masochist. My "Killer Drinks" book is something different to the usual car stuff, I think it's the best thing I've written, although I've sold about 2 copies ever, or something... I am now also writing for Classic. Retro. Modern. and also Alternative Car and Absolute Lotus, by the way, and there's always new content on the www.motorpunk.co.uk blog (free words and stuff!). Thanks again.

I'm going to quote someone from the 90s. "Even anti-fashion is a fashion and thus we hate it" Other good points Mankee Cheung is also a pretty sound chap, who was a regular contributor. I really enjoyed his company the few times I met him, and the insight he had in the car world. Same for Rich Duisburg, who now runs MotoPunk. Thanks, chap!

Can I share mine? Be nice… How about some time-lapse stuff? 20 mins is quite a long time for today's short attention span viewers. Keep up the good work!
