With that budget go RWD, even with less power than something FWD it will be a lot more fun and 99% of the time far more rewarding. Given that you are young and mortgage less and childless(?) I would be looking at really stupid, impractical cars while you have the chance. Some the most fun cars I have ever had have been kit cars with stupid fold up roofs and dodgy doors that don't keep the winter out, you'll be forced into sensible cars far to soon so make the most of it now, why buy some Japanese or German tin box when you could drive a hot rod or a loony looking lightweight kit car? Very true, I really don't have many responsibilities or have the need for something practical, I hadn't thought of it like that! How does one go about insuring kit cars? I'd of thought most usual companies wouldn't touch them.

Saab 9-3 turbo? MX5? Primera GT's are a really good car. Would be worth spending a bit of time playing around on compare the meercat and chucking in some of the cars you really want as some of them can come out surprisingly cheaper than expected (or the next model down). I would have thought a teggy would have been pretty harsh on the insurance. What sorts of cars/scenes are you into? How bad is the insurance on the teggy and what are you prepared to pay (not that I could judge what others are going to sting you for, 21 was too long ago ? Always fancied a nice Saab, especially a 9k! Well, fully comp with £250 excess a DC2 comes in at a little under £900, which all things considered, I didn't think was bad at all. I do like Fords, but I'm by no means blinkered by it, if anything I'd like to stray away for a while!

Reading back, I didn't really include any useful information, sorry!
I was budgeting about £3.5k for a DC2, but could go a touch higher. It's a daily smoker, I don't do many miles at all, 12 there and back from work plus 2 miles there and back from the gym 4/5 times a week. Needs to be a standard car that responds well to a bit of tinkering.
I don't really have a short list, I'd consider anything! I was looking at a Primera GT earlier, seems a lot of car for the money.

I haven't actually introduced myself on here yet, I shall do in the appropriate section after this. Basically, I'm after a new car. I currently have a 1989 Escort Popular, mint one owner blah blah I won't bore you with the details , but I'd like something with a bit of poke. Only problem being is insurance, I have just turned 21 on friday and will have 2 years no claims in early september so it's a little better now. I've been looking at DC2 Integras, but I do like to be different from most my age so I'm after some ideas! So fire away! Ben.
