I love a good sound system and have always had some decent gear in my cars. I'm not really interested in much post 2000 stuff, however. In my beetle at the moment I've got a complete Rockford Fosgate system, including head unit, audiophile components, audiophile sub and amps. You can't beat the old stuff. I've got a bit of an equipment stash in the garage as well, including some soundstream, kef and mission bits and pieces.

Whilst it is true that often a lot of us buy a cheap old car because it is a cheap old car, I really enjoy the fact that most of us are just as excited about aquiring a cheap old car as an expensive car!

That's a very clean type 3 you have there. I had one very similar but with lots and lots of rust! Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

I saw a couple of unusual left hookers on my way to work this morning. One was a newish Volvo estate and the other a Mk2 Fiesta, both on UK plates. Just made me wonder how that came about.

I was kind of burnt out from the VW scene, having been on Volkszone since the early days and Total VW (remember that!) even earlier. I just found the whole thing too cliquey and not really about the cars. That and there are some startling opinions held by some people who are not afraid to voice them loudly.
I was looking for something more friendly and positive, with a wider variety of cars. This site is perfect!

I've got a bit of automotive seven year itch with my VWs at the moment. I've had my Beetle for 12 years and my bus for 17 and keep thinking about other things but I know I would regret it if I sold either of them.

I've got a yearning for one of these too. I used to have a 6 berth Hymer motorhome base on the old Merc. I had to sell it though as it was so slow!
What are the chances of fitting runing gear from a Sprinter or similar?

You have got the later IRS beetle rear suspension, which is the better choice for handling and, as you say, 944 bits should bolt up. The best way to get that 36mm nut off is a big socket and a long bar that you can either stand on, or a long enough scaffold tube to lean on. They are pretty tight. Thanks Disco, I've ordered a 36mm impact socket and I have a 1/2 inch drive Air impact tool, so hope that works. Do you know what I need off the 944 to make mine disc....the drums only seem to be 30mm wide, so suspect they are not type 3 drums? They just look like standard Beetle drums to me. To do the 944 brake swap I think it is best to tak ethe hubs, trailing arms and everything from an early 944 or 924 turbo.

It's a pty mini trucks never really caught on in the UK, I've only ever seen a handful of really good ones. I suppose a big problem must have been the shortage of decent base vehicles, most pick ups were either rusty or severely battered. If only my Dad had kept the mid 80s Datsun... Oh wait, it got trashed on the farm....

I've got a left hand drive motorhome so overtaking isn't something I often need to worry about. Big roundabouts can pose visibility to the right problems but it comes into it's own on European holidays.

it was croyde bay designs. pretty sure it was a no worries range. I sold my t shirt and sticker on ebay about 5 years ago as I had the sticker, t shirt and the bag it came in. got more than I paid for it and had won it for many years! sweet! I think both are right and I had both the Croyde Bay (in blue tie dye!) and the No Worries shirts, they weren't the same company however. No wories also used to organise the legendary Beetle Bash.

Love the van! My VW camper is a Canterbury Pitt conversion. There are a lot of similarities in the fixtures and fittings.

How much do you enjoy welding and how much are repair panels? Early Porsches certainly aren't getting any cheaper...
