For example... Found this on the Insty. Notice it's retained its original plate. Have messaged. Three's another guy who converted his Jetta but kept the original plate until literally a few days ago (some 3 years down the line) where the V5 has been revoked all of a sudden and he's now staring at an IVA. Murky waters indeed. Thats the thing with not going through IVA when you should, it can bite you years down the line. The other thing to think about is that at IVA you are not testing a modified car you are testing a whole new one so no pre existing parts apply, google Andy Saunders experience with his Bentley . I read the airbag thing in an article about modified Rover 75s, one of the things that had to be done to pass was remove the airbags. Anything with a cut monocoque will get a Q plate, this is a good thing and future proofs your car. The decision to IVA or not is down to the builder of the car, most don't, some have been bitten, Andy Frosts Red Victor 3 comes to mind, many more will be bitten. The Beetle should not be difficult to get through though it does add another big bill to the project.

The Beetle shouldn't be a big problem for IVA, all the projection and radius requirments inside and out should be ok on a type approved car as should the glass requirements, not sure about the kit rear screen. Those are the things that give older cars the most trouble. There are a few IVA things that seem a bit wierd, no airbags allowed for Instance I think, but all do able. You will get a Q plate. Best bet is to download and read the IVA manual first

Make the most of global warming in the company of family or friends. 1995 Rover 214 cabriolet, MOT October 21, 60000 miles, currently sharing daily driver duties. Benefits from a working power hood and leather interior, it's a comfy and pleasant place to be. It's 26 years old so it's not mint but apart from the bonnet it polishes up well, there are a few scabby bits starting around the rear arches but nothing serious yet and it is really solid underneath, obviously there are few scuffs. It drives really nicely, all R8s do, is economical and nice to drive. It sometimes runs lumpy for the first minute after a cold start but clears quickly, it would probably benefit from a service. The temp gauge has recently stopped working, I'll look into it if I get time and there is a small intermittent water loss, it doesn't always do it and never does more than empty the expansion bottle. A pressure test shows fine and it has never overheated in my ownership. The head gasket was done late last year. I've really enjoyed this car and wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere, only going as I have a MGF coming. All in all a cheap family soft top for the summer.

Not a full valet today, just a wash but it was machine polished with 3M fast cut last year and polished a few times since so it still comes up well Looking at the pictures I posted of my Rover Tomcat, aside from the MGF I was driving at the time there are three more cars in the background that I went on to own, one my then girlfriend bought and still has and one a friend now has

Now that’s a nice save ^^^^^ Thanks Dan, I put another 10000 miles on it before selling it on, it was a VVC with the t tops, leather and working Aircon, it's not been on the road since it left me and a coach backed into it in the chaps yard a couple of months ago so it needs a wing and a bumper now. I should never have sold it

Keep it Dan, you know you want to. Interesting to see the bubble dash in an N reg, mine is the same age but has the old dash so yours must be a really early facelift car, looks like a power top as well. If I didnt already have one it would be really tempting

If you have the owners handbook with the cars security code there is a method to by pass the immobiliser by entering the code via turning the key left and right in the door lock. I'm driving a scruffy one of these daily at the moment and they are much under rated cars, that looks like a nice one.

Would someone be able to change the colour of the silver trim on the centre console and steering wheel to red please. They need repainting and I'm trying to decide whether to leave them the same colour or paint them to match the exterior paint. Many thanks

I've been using a 114 GSi as a daily for 11 months and 18000 miles and it's been brilliant, like driving a little go kart, it always put a smile on my face. I've sold it this evening and I was sorry to see it go but the sorrow is helped my the new daily a 118 Vi, just as much fun and twice the horsepower.

I suspect the car you remember is the Sceptre pictured early on in this thread. When it was first featured it was still a four door and painted a greenish gray and white I think and fitted with a Holbay engine. Later it got a Vauxhall engine then later still two doored with alloys and the blue and white paint. It remains the coolest Sceptre ever

DVLA have successfully sent back the logbook for my car ammended with the new engine number and capacity a mere THREE AND A HALF MONTHS after receiving it. I suppose I should be grateful that they got it done rather than send it all back with a spurious excuse why they couldn't. Bunch of useless curse words
