I had a MK2 16v GTI and went through numerous rubber hangers for the back box, the standard ones just weren't up to the job and stretched under the weight and the aftermarket 'reinforced' ones were just as bad. If you want to include exhaust and stupid in the same sentence, there's always the Classic Mini. Try sealing the standard manifold to the standard exhaust using the stupid one-piece clamp they gave you. It was an utter ball-ache. Not surprised most people went Free-flow or LCB. The originals were garbage. And Metros were even worse, because they had 2.

The scene in American Graffiti where Curt ties the cop cars axle up, in the car lot there's a '64 Falcon. The film's set in 1962.

No pics, but in the late 80's I had a fake car phone complete with stick on aerial, in my HC Viva.

Looks like you've got a leaky master cylinder. Easy enough to change. The difference in size on your feeler gauges shouldn't make any difference.

Does anyone have any tips on fixing the numberplate? The black is worn through. The letters are slightly raised. I could spray it all and try and remove the paint with thiiners on a cotton wool bud I guess. Anyone got a suggestion? Spray it black, then go over the raised letters with some 1000 grit wet & dry.

I've got a second hand Clarke one I picked up off eBay for £20. Holds up a Pinto easily enough.

A guy I used to work with had a '49 Lincoln, that had been a mild kustom in the 80's. It was showing it's age & the sills were full of holes. He bought a couple of lengths of plastic guttering, & a tub of filler. Biff, bash, bosh, new sills!

I'd swear I saw an ad for a film where that got restored?? I absolutely haave to know if this still exists, and if there was a pair. *edit* DVLA says no. Travesty. It does still exist, it was rebuilt by a mate, a couple of years ago.

F type Vauxhall Victor. Wipers packed up on the way to a show, heater burst & filled the inside with steam, brakes failed, both rear springs snapped when I had a fat girl in the back, & it tried to run me over. Remarkably it's still on the road, according to the DVLA.

Seem to remember I tried this, many years ago. IIRC, the front bush is too wide to fit in the MK1 mount.

I worked in a local garage as a teenager during the summer holidays. There were lots of bodges I witnessed and sadly I have to admit being part of! The most memorable was a MK 4 Ford Cortina we purchased at the auctions with a worn camshaft. The idea was to replace the camshaft, quick wash & polish and put on the forecourt with a profitable mark up. On starting the job (I had no idea what to do) I was told to remove some of the dash and to use a hefty hammer and chisel in order to cut out some of the metal bulkhead behind the top of the engine. (can you see where this is going?) The camshaft was duly removed by sliding it through the hole into the interior of the car and the angled up out of the engine bay! 🤠The hole was then filled with the local gazette and paint! Oh the shame I didn’t question what I was doing but assumed it was cheaper & quicker than what I suspect was lifting the engine as the slam panel was in the way. I can’t remember exactly what model it was but it was this colour: Used to do a similar thing on old Jags. Rear handbrake pads are a right pain to get to, so cut a hole in the boot floor above, for access.

Look up synstrip on eBay, proper old school stripper. I used it on an old slot machine I was restoring with 60 year old paint, & it lifted it right off.

1969 Front Wheel Drive V8 Landcrab by BLMC (Australia) Has that got a chain drive to the 'box? Probably wouldn't have lasted too long.
