Thanks guys, I'll try the stop solenoid tomorrow, can always swap the one from the old pump if necessary. Roy Royson when you say ages, how long is ages? I pretty much flattened a fully charged battery today. Cheers steve.

car@carat36amg Cheers mate, I tried this today with no luck.. I completely undid the unions at the injector end so i could see the end of the pipe, then got a mate to turn her over. Nothing not a drop of diesel came out, tried till the battery was going flat, so thats back on charge for round two! I then disconnect the pipe that feeds the pump from the diesel filter and that proved that the pump was getting fuel. Any more ideas? Cheers steve.

Cheers I'll give that a bash in the morn. Is the lack of me bleeding them likely to cause it not to start?

No I've not, is that a case of slackening the unions at the injectors till fuel comes out? Cheeers steve

Well i finally got round to fitting the new pump today, and now the car wont start, just spinning and not sounding like it has any intention of starting! I followed the instructions in the haynes manual including marking where the original pump was and fitting the new pump in exactly the same place. Once everything was back together I primed the pump using the rubber bubble thing and pressure built up no problem and it seems to be holding that pressure, so I'm a bit stumped now. Any ideas folks? Cheers steve.

From the vids I watched ( its a lucas/cav dpc by the way) you have to remove the pump and then remove several parts before you can remove the part with the o ring. I have to admit there is a part of me that wants to rebuild it but I'm also mindful of the fact it could all go wrong and that would probably mean the car being off the road till the new year. If I just buy the used pump it could be sorted by next week. Notice I said could there lol! Cheers steve

If you had showed me that fabric and said i'm going to do my door cards and headlining with it, I'd have politely told you it was a mistake to do such a thing. But it look bloody amazing mate, good on ya for trying something different, and pulling it off. Cheers steve.

Tepper Cheers mate I have now watched a couple of vids of pump strip down and rebuild. There is a big o ring right in the area where the leak is, so I suspect that's whats wrong. Thing is after watching the vids I feel even less inclined to do a rebuild lol! Rebuild kit is around £35 second hand pump £50, and there is every chance that I'd mess up the rebuild so think I'm going to just get a pump. Cheers steve.

Right well today I have been over all the pipe work, all the flexible pipes got a good wiggle about with the engine running and no sign of any leaks. As for the hard pipes, I got a spanner on every union and nipped them up. Then I just left it running and watched. No signs of any leaks from any pipe work or unions. What I did see was this... looking from the top I could see diesel start to build up in the grove that I arrowed in the pic above, then it started to drip once enough had built up. With the engine switched off the grove dried up, switch it back on and its back to dripping. So I'm now 90% sure this is where its coming from. I wonder if there is a seal gone somewhere in that area. To be honest the thought of stripping the pump down completely scares me,but if I can just take the end off and stick in a new seal, well that sounds ok lol. Any thoughts folks?
