Really nice attention to detail as always Do you run any kind of an engine steady for torque reaction from the big engine? I'm putting a V8 in my project and clearance is so tight I think one will be needed, wondered if you had any tips?

Hi All, So that inlet manifold did NOT want to come off. I figured the studs might be part of the problem, being steel I think they'd welded themselves to the alloy manifold, but there was no room to get a stud remover in for most of them and not enough stud protruding for the '2 nuts' method to work. I tried heating them up and also applying heat along the length of the manifold in an attempt to burn away some of the paper gasket that had spent the past 40 years turning to concrete. Eventually I was able to tap the blade of a wallpaper scraper in at one end but that was it. I didn't want to have to resort to a screwdriver until the gap had properly opened up so I turned the engine on its side and tied the manifold to my crane, hoisting it up just enough so it was carrying the weight of the whole engine, then hit down on the head with a hammer using a piece of wood to protect it. That did the trick, opening the gap enough so I could get a couple of thin bladed screwdrivers in there to pry the manifold off without damaging the head. I rewarded myself by loosely fitting up the new carbs, ain't they pretty? Next job is degrime and paint. Cheers Darren Will sound fantastic with the side drafts on there

As I had a minimum order cost with anodising it made some sense to machine other bits to take advantage. A new pair of aluminium strut tops made and polished. strut tops by Mark V8, on Flickr strut tops 2 by Mark V8, on Flickr Rest of the parts polished up also as all it cost me was time... shiney by Mark V8, on Flickr After a trip to the anodiser anodised bits by Mark V8, on Flickr Front end of engine finally together at long last. anodised fitted by Mark V8, on Flickr Now I need to sort out a spigot bearing that will fit imperial crank and metric gearbox, fit flywheel and twin plate clutch, chop bellhousing to hopefully clear front anti roll bar, fit centre push release bearing etc

Ah that´s such a shame. I really love these engines. So much potential in them. Russ Carpenter proved how tough they can be too - 1200hp on the stock bottom end. I always thought it would be interesting to stick a turbo on one, but sadly the numbers really don´t add up when compared to the cheap power you could get from a modern engine. That said, I´d agree with others here and try and rebuild it (and if it was me, upgrade it). Good luck. Ahh the Glacier Grenade, 7 second Rail, who built the supercharged A series rail that ran 7s too, sorry for the Hijack Is that the guy that used Triumph motorbike pistons and a big supercharger ?

Do you have to send it back for engine change mate?
Mine took 6 weeks to come back and they want receipt for engine or garage report to make them happy...

I have just tried that dose not work either all I get in the BBCode is this: and nothing else on preview, just blank. I have successfully posted the same images on Buy Sell Cortina without any problem all working fine. So I know it's this site not my computer or my set up all of my images are set to a max width of 1024 and are around 150k in size so they are not to big in file size.
Only way I could find to post pictures was with Flickr www.flickr.com/

More please? I think the alternator and tension-er should come under the abbreviation of KISS.
Not much more to add, I've made a lash up out of assorted bits of ali bolted together that I have now measured and can make a proper one from. It's going to be a bit of a mongrel with Peugeot power steering pump, transit van idler pulley, Granada 24 valve alternator and Jeep 2.8 CRD tensioner It took 3 trips to the car parts place to get the belt length right... tensioner lash up by Mark V8, on Flickr There's a 165 x 155 x 127 mm lump of aluminium waiting at work for me to make a start on but the drawing is not yet finished...

Viewing window is a good idea I built an oven where I used to work and a viewing window would have averted disaster a few times!
