Hey folks,
Just thought I would introduce myself...I've been loitering around the forum for a number of months now, particulary looking within the 'Cars for Sale' section, looking for a retro bargain!
Anyway, my names John and I'm 22 years old.. I've been driving 5 years in July and I spent the early part of my driving life buying cheap bangers from auction, doing them up and then running them around for a bit until I got bored and flogged it for something else!
However, I left uni, grew up and got a proper job - this led me to buy a 21st century hatch - indeed my daily runabout is a 2010 '10' reg Seat Ibiza 1.6 Sport - I love it and its ideal for hacking about in to work, but my real passion lies with older cars, particulary ones that I consider 'smokers' - my definition of a 'smoker' is such vehicles as old BMW's, Mercedes, Jags, Audi's etc. I'm a long standing BMW fan and I've toyed with a few E34's, however this time I just wanted a second car I could smoke around in on weekends and have a laugh with. I really fancied a W123 Mercedes 230E, indeed I shortlisted a late 'A' reg example but the fact it was the opposite end of the country meant it far outweighed the travelling expenses for a car that needed a fair bit of work!
So, after finding something on this forum and then seeing it on eBay, I put a bid in and won the auction this evening. The car in question is a 1984 'B' registration Mercedes 190E 2.0 Auto with 74k on the clock. It's about 40 miles away and I'm hopefully heading down to pick it up tomorrow evening.
Pictures and a progress thread will be up over the weekend I would imagine!
Regards,
John.
