A mid 90's 2dr Nissan Micra, ultra reliable, cheap to run and lots of fun, look good dropped with alloys. (Please no colettes, odious rust buckets ) If you pay less than a grand for one (easily done) tell the insurance it's worth about 1.1k. (you'll never get that back obviously) It's been my experience that you get stung for driving anything less than 1k, due to it being too cheap to care about! (Still can't get over the operator telling me i'd drive a £500 Sierra differently because it was cheap, it was in mint condition having been stored in an old boys garage.) You'll probably get stung for anything over 1400cc unless you're willing to have a limited mileage, nightime curfew, classic car type deal. I'm obviously a lot older than 17 now and although it pains me to say it, I may be a little out of touch with said 17yr olds insurance hurdles. Plus I don't know whether you can still do the named driver on your parents policy thing if your the main driver.

There's one in Devon on PH for £750 that looks a good starting point.
My wife's second car was an MX5 I drove it every opportunity I could, awesome little car.

Mike that was well timed response.
The guy has just got back to say that the 15*7 minilites that I want don't come in my PCD, I can't stretch to have new tyres and alloys this month, otherwise I'd be grabbing a set of Alley's... so now have to rethink the whole thing.
I guess the cheapest option now is to get some new tyres for the poorly looking rostyles I have and make do or just get some 15*5.5 minilites reusing my current tyres and be done with it for good.

I love the ally cat look-alikes..with a big dish yum Not sure how wide I can go at the minute, getting an "expert" to call me back tomorrow with a firmed up price as the minilites are £339 plus delivery, and the others are only in a 13x6 fitment on his site, although he's sure they do 15's...I've not seen em anywhere yet though.

Lol sorry RRG 2013 at Prescott hill climb, I have a tendency to think what I'm typing, to then not type it.
I've just edited my post to include the wheels, give it an hour and I'll probably have figured out how to add a poll.

I hate your wheels, please sell them to me :-)
Nowt wrong with putting a foreign motor in your car if it keeps a classic going.

Looking at either a set of JBW Minilights (black spokes) or Rallye Specials, can't decide on which just yet. Anyone know of these wheels and their quality? Edit* Apparently a picture speaks a thousand words, so I've added these two :-)

Its nice to see one of these agian, I had a blue one in 1985 I was 18 at the time, Imagine an 18 year old insuring an 1800cc motor today! Yours looks in better nick than mine did. When I finally passed my test at 17 insurance was £200 for me back then that was an 1800. I loved that car and this is why I've got this one now, I need to pay my respects or something. I learned to drive my mums HC viva when I was 14, I was fortunate enough to be in the under 17 car club at castle combe. In the morning I would be driving around the paddock learning parallel parking, three point turns and car maintenance. The track was coned off with T junctions and roundabouts at this time opening up in the afternoon as a Motorway session, although as you can imagine everyone raced each other egged on by their Dad in my case lol. There was an 13yr old girl in her dad's karmann ghia, it was immaculate until she hit the embankment coming down the pit entrance. My funniest memory of this time was having a scrap with a fiat uno, he had me on the bends as my goodyear grand prix S's screamed for mercy whilst trying to cope with worn out suspension, then come the straights I'd have him back again, that went on for three laps . I had that silver viva for a couple of months when my mum gave it to me for free, a whole two weeks after that I wrote it off . The gearbox mount dropped or something as I went to go into 3rd and the gear stick just hit the trans tunnel, as I was leaving the ring road and entering a roundabout I just under steered into a lamp post, had I not panicked I might have actually thought of hitting the brakes rather than putting more turns into the steering wheel. I was so upset.. It was all FWD after that, nowhere near as much fun, was bouncing around between fiesta's, escort estate's patched with carpet tape over the holes to a £50 allegro cos I broke my suzuki GP125.

Sorted out a few of the little niggles last night, boot now shuts a bit easier and the shut lines match. I tweaked the bonnet too as the rear of bonnet looked a little low when shut.
Heater issue was down to a simple cable run locating bracket popping off, so now it's back in place and tightened up the control has it's full range of motion back.
The heater control unit also had no power going to the bulb that light's up the display wotsit, I remedied this perfectly first time round then blew the fuse trying to make a neater job of it. doh!
Rear wheel balancing issue is down to a rather bent alloy, it looks ok to look at but it would appear one of the spokes has taken a wallop, so am trying to sort something out with the guys I bought the car from, as these are South African wheels they aren't going to be easy to get hold of. Never seen a set of wheels that have 3 PCD options on them before and done so from the factory, mind you none of the options are 101.6 lol so they've been done up using the 4x100 so they have to go anyway.
I got some rust issues under the bonnet nothing major by the looks of it, but that's to be expected. will need to save up before I get Retropower to sort it out. Hopefully have the car for a couple of years as is before i properly mess about with restoring it.
So important thing first is lowering once I've got me wheels, although my exhaust looks very low at the down pipe section is this normal?
I'll have to get a picture up tonight.

Loving the look of this car, liking the wheels and I see it's got gaz shocks so will have to read the whole thread as I'd like to lower my magnum a little. Cool car indeed... *update* Read the whole thread last night, epic effort put into this beauty. Again in awe of your wheels and the drop in ride height just sets it up beautifully. Will you be at the gathering? would be good to meet for a chat if you were..

did I see this at some point over the weekend in Nottingham ? (I've been drunk a couple of times since but I looks familiar) Thanks for the kind words guys Hi Guz Yes you probably did see this as I was lost in Nottingham looking for my mates house, which was supposed to be 25mins away from where I bought it lol And then I drove back past Nottingham university campus to join the motorway in the late evening. Was a lovely day for it, to get the wheels banded I need to get them refurbed first looking at JamesP's requirements, so that'll be £55 a wheel plus banding and tyres. so may just get them refurbed and keep as a nice set then find a another pair for banding. Or I've seen some nice 15" minilites with black inserts that aren't too expensive. Turbohpf, those are som nice wheels you have there, are they 15's?

Arches or no arches the car looks amazing, i'm so glad you found one after you sold the rx.
My personal choice is arches if you're going to modify the car..what are the chances of you being in it at the gathering this year?

So i bought this at the weekend Just needs a little fettling, heater constantly blows out hot air over your feet regardless of setting. And i personally don't like the clutch height or the fact that the choke is a little stiff in operation, and i think a wheel needs balancing. But it could have been worse i guess, now just need to find a group of like minded fruit loops to join. Looking for some help with what to do with the 6 ruststyles it came with, was thinking of banding them, but maybe I should just treat them to a refurb? I've seen someone wanting £250 quid for a set of replacement centre caps, so maybe i should look after them properly. Anyone know what the offset is supposed to be for one of these machines? Cheers Nick Oh I forgot to mention this is going to be my daily driver

Hi All
Bought myself a magnum coupe to get back into the retro scene proper, however it's currently sat on south african MK2 escort alloys.
I understand I need a 101.6 PCD, but what's the offset meant to be? It's currently on 195 50 15 which are catching the chassis.
Your help is appreciated.
Cheers Nick
