12 years ago I had a Suzuki Cappuccino, which ended like this: Because it looked like this when i investigated the little bit of rust I saw: I didn't own it long, and I know i should've looked better when buying, but I didn't. Learning money, as we say in Dutch. The longing for a Cappuccino never went away, the prices for them definetely did, sadly. Recently the Cappuccino came back in to my memory again, and I started looking for them again, and found this car for sale in the Netherlands. Within budget and ready to go (1,5 years of MoT left on it). The seller was very honest about the car, it's errors and it's good points. Paintwork is shot, but the body is very rustfree for one (and believe me, i know where to look and i did look! ). And also some minor technical issues, which don't scare me as much as the rot does. Drove it around today, on a very nice sunny day and i'm very happy with it! Apart from the few little issues, it's a very good and honest car. Fun to drive! It's mostly stock, with some minor changes to it. And a fugly bonnet and rear wing. i will try to swap those out for some stock panels. And the red on the wheels and the callipers has to go, i don't like it.

Must have been about 10 years ago now that I was discussing the potential of Mk1 Twingo's low on 3 spokes with Bruce from Area 52. That looks exactly as good as I had in my head. Take a guess whose Twingo that is... Rustival looked great, sadly I couldn't fit it in my schedule this year. Thanks for the photos!

Time really has been kind to the Golf 3. I never really looked at them, but now that's changing. Especially in this VR6 flavour!
Nice work!

An AE86 in good condition for 1500, before they went way up. Just had my driving licence, couldn't afford the car, let alone the insurance on it.
Still can't afford them now...

New year, new chance to definitely get it back on the road! The car has it's 50th anniversary this year, so I want it back on the road for that occasion. I need to have a look at the brakes, as they are sticking and the master cillinder is empty, so that deffo needs a rebuild. I wanted to wait with putting the engine back in the hole untill after that, but yesterday i couldn't wait any longer, i've procastinated enough. Bolted the box back to the engine, found out the current exhaust solution NEARLY fits, so that's a bonus! I've not been this close to a fitting solution yet. Engine back in, and the exhaust also clears the subframe and the steeringbox!

That's exactly the reason why it's there indeed. We don't want the ugly big plates on it and without the fog light there, there's no chance of getting a 18:2 stamp in the paperwork. Afterwards, the foglamp will definitely move to the left cluster And thanks!

Loosing my job, getting a decent payout from it, found a new job, finished the Australian car, so it's ready for Dutch license plates, booked a holiday to Japan with part of the payout. I don't know if i can call that relatively unscathed, but in the end it's not that bad, just the next couple of months to finish the current job, which aren't fun at all.

I think the best thing summernats ever did, was bringing the burnout masters over to the Saturday arvo. It used to be the last thing on Sunday as a bit of an apotheose of the weekend, but it went silent straight after the finals.. Having the sunday to recoup from the party from Saturday is a good idea. We left on Sunday afternoon as we where well overwhelmed by all of Summernats, and thus missed the masters finals (watched it online from the hotel after a shower).
Thanks for your report! Great writeup of what is summernats!

Getting recognised on the other side of the world is a weird feeling! Not sure if I can make it to the weekender, changing jobs soon and not sure what I can arrange at the new job. The gathering looks more likely, but not sure if I can wait that long. And getting a ride with Pinky over skid row is a dream come true! Well jealous of you!

Looking forward to your view of Summernats, i know we had a blast last year! Totally agree on the feeling of the noise part, nothing could've prepared me for that first burnout i saw on the thursday. Sensory overload! i'm still not jealous.....

I had 15s on mine for a while, hated it, way too big, even with the wide TE27 rear arches. 13s is the way to go!

I'm the same, you both probably also use the forum.retro-rides.org url in stead of the other one.
I use this url on all my devices and have had 0 issues the last month.

Work on the oily bits has halted for now, engine is done, gearbox is done. Before i put it back in the hole, i want to refurbish the brake system and taking out the master cylinder is a LOT easier before the engine is in the way. So that's next on the list. In the meantime some other stuff has happened, in August i picked up some seats from this very forum, a set of quite tired, but still good Recaro seats. Made some brackets to get them in my car, took the opportunity to put them a bit more rearwards. For the first time in 18 years i own this car i can stretch my legs while driving. Much better! The plan was to redo the fabric in the epic 70s Recaro Spectrum fabric. I really like it, and it's quite 'period correct'. Spectrum seats are eye wateringly expensive though, and even the remade fabric is quite expensive, but i wanted to go for it. ivan141 was going to do the hard work for me, as he's quite good at it! And after some searching online he found the perfect fabric! Period correct, almost spectrum and alround just perfect! No idea what it was made for, never seen it before and it looks unused. he got to work and this was the result: Perfect! Put the seats at a safe place at home, so the mice in the barn won't get to it before i finish the car. Next time when my mate isn't using the lift for the work on his Holden Commodore he brought over from Australia, i'll make a start on the brake system and then look into putting the engine and box back in so i can start working on the exhaust.

Nice work! I also drive/have a early 70s Corolla, and in the past i had a GX71, i feel a connection! . That's a lot of effort to get a nice sound from your car, but i can totally understand it! I bought a 1G-GTE to replace my 1G-GE on the basis of 2 youtube vids where a Japanese guy was driving around in his GX71 Twinturbo and it making ALL the good noises. Never got round to swapping it in though...

I have had several cars with 4age engines, but only MAP. I think in yoorop only the cars equipped with catalytic converters had AFM (mainly Swiss market and some of the Eastern Europe countries).

Do you need the Dutch mob to go into action for you? Maybe 🤣 I last messaged the supplier on Thursday. If I haven’t heard from them by say Tuesday, I’ll message again to request a cancellation of the order and a refund. Maybe a bit of negative publicity on the Canta forum might get a response. Either that or a native Dutch speaker who is willing to give them a phone call and put a rocket up them. Failing that, I’m not beyond forking out for a ferry crossing and riding up there on my bike… If you need any help, give me a shout. Not sure where they are, but i won't have to cross water (by boat anyway ... ) to get there if necessary.
