I have been wading through this issue as well, to fit modern, comfortable seats with integrated seat belts into a Mercedes W114 coupe.
Ebay search for Cabrio/Convertible seats. Most have integrated belts. Example Saab,Mercedes, BMW.
I would love to install those beautiful, plush looking folding seats out of the luxury class Mercs, but the fears about the ECU dependence has put me right off. Not too bothered about weight, but technological nightmare.

I did hear something about lights vs bulbs mentioned. I will look it up.
The problem still stands about cnc copying....🤔
How much do you all think it would cost to scan and fabricate these parts?

No, I want the ENTIRE headlight scanned and copied in all profiles in shiny aluminium. So it looks like the current unit and installs on the current vehicle as it did (see my previous threads with pics on getting replacement bowls for a Merc W114 to see where this stupid scheme was hatched!) I was then going to ask for the area with the light bowl, to be recreated, so I could just install a modern 7" headlamp - maybe even a LED unit. Laser scanning is the first port of call then.... if it's just a bracket to carry a headlight could you not get it 3d printed in plastic?

Hi all, Can you help with this fabrication;
I want to copy a headlight (simple shape of the light with glass cover on) from a 1969 Merc in 3d then make some minor changes to cut a hole to accept a 7" light bolt and one for an indicator.
Then I want these cut/milled out of a corrosion resistant aluminium alloy.
Any idea what the process of scanning, digitising and the milling out is called, so I can find the people who do this kind of wizardry? The latter part will be CNC I guess. But the scanning and modifying??!
Thank you U

Thanks, there are a couple of radiator shops in town, I will try them.
I do have a can of Marine clean somewhere from an engine clean. But all it did was degrease, not remove this horrible, varnishy gunk.

Hi all, again. I have been running my 200tdi Land Rover Lightweight, on Veg oil over the last 5 years.
The tanks are coated in veg oil including the stuff that has turned to a horrible sticky varnish.
I want it cleaned, but haven't got a clue of the type of cleaning I should search for (arson is not one of them).
Any help pls or a service local to Lancashire appreciated?

I hope you are still researching this.
If you go for a 603,605 or 606 OM Diesel, try to modify it with a manual injector pump. When I looked at this for my W114, the wiring was awful, desptie the assistance of an engineer with a Rainman level of Merc knowledge.
I have given up on the diesel and Merc petrol lark and am looking into using a Lexus LS400 V8, running LPG.
It is a well reserched engine for swaps, reknown for strength with lots of market products in kodified harnesses etc. I am sure it will need some bay rejigging.
And a vote for the BMW 330D M57 engine. Oh yus! Great engine, great manual gearbox with with nuclear torque.
Good luck!

I believe you are right. This was one of the arguments against installing just a simple LED bulb in a restored W114 H4 headlamp bowl.
Apparently, the LED bulbs produced lights further out from the focal point built into the bowl for a H4 halogen bulb.
There must be a way out there. I don't want to tart looking at getting a clear, uncorrected vacuum formed outer lense fir the headlight, just to let me run LED headlamp bowls behind them.

Bloody electrics. I HATE ELECTRICS!
Yes, removing the airbags will be easy enough. In fact, it would be even easier getting seats with deployed bags and then just getting it restitched......and the seat bases cleaned! 💩

Hi all, My Merc W114 has got headlights as shown below. Basically the bowl has lost its silvering a bit. I wonder if I can replace the original bowl by installing an LED headlamp, behind the diffractor glass to get a more modern output? I think, that means I need to find a LED headlamp that doesnt have any beam correction on it, or it might clash with the original W114 beam correcting glass - am I right? Any ideas on where I can get uncorrected headlamps for this job? Many Thanks

Happy days! So even if it has memory seats, If I don't want these, all I need to do is to provide power and all the up down and sidey bits should function? Good point re the airbags - they will be fecked off asap. Piccies:

Hi all, Does anyone know how I could install these lovely Merc seats from 2005+ cars into my 1969 Merc shed?
There are some worries that these seats are hard to install due to things like CANBUS??
Seats of interest are ones like in the CLS W219....
ANY advice appreciated including contacts, gadgets, workarounds, links appreciated?

Thank you so much for your replies. I kind of went off on a tangent and have just bought a Lexus 400.....I hear the UZ1-FE VVti engine is very interesting and can use LPG without too much hassle...I am just going to retire to a quiet corner, have a sanity check and will be back to this thread shortly.
Again, Thank you for your advice, it still remains relevant now with a lunking big V8 with twin banks of manifolds in the way.....
I mean c'mon - it will be dead naughty and might cause a twitch in the Merc Forums

Really??!
I am all over the place to verify this. I wanted an OM606 or OM605 merc engine to mess aroumd with superturbodieseling but am constantly gettimg scare stories.
I had to back down to a 220cdi now with a hacked ecu which doesnt fill me with confidence.
Have you seen an RHD W114 or W115 with a turbocharged engine? Any links appreciated.

Hi all, I am trying to get a modern engine put in a Merc W114. I keep running into concerns that the exhaust manifold/turbo interferes with the steering arm running down to the box, along the o/side chassis rail.
Is there any other way to connect a steering wheel the steering box without needing a straight arm?? That is, without breaking the piggy bank.

NO LONGER LOOKING, THANK YOU.
Hi all, The sheddier the better. MOT would be a bonus as far as price is right. I am after the OM605 engined TD cars.
Prefer decent engine and gearbox condition.
NW UK, but will travel for the right shed.
