I'd love to know the story behind the International, or even what country it's in. I'm a bit to young to remember Roadtrains, there was one in the workshop at college but it was old fashioned even then. I once read about the Leyland works team in the early days of Truck Grand Prix, they rocked up and the scrutineers were dubious about the lack of seat belts. For the second race the found some rope and tied the driver in. Deciding enough was enough for the third race they took a belt out of the support Sherpa van and bodged it in. The trucks were road registered and driven to the track. Edit to say, actually I think it was a Freighter, not a Roadtrain. We were more interested in the N14 Cummins with a Jake they let us play with if we behaved ourselves. Those old Rollers were super engines though. Anyway.... as you were.
I think the International will have been in the US. Quaker State sponsored XJS's, E types and Le Man style GT racers.
I think the Leyland in your college workshop would have been a Roadtrain. The Freighter was smaller, and wouldn't have had a 14 ltr Cummins in it. I knew a guy who ran a Roadtrain at the first British truck grand prix at Donnington. It had some of the roll cage removed on the Monday, to allow the bunk to be refitted. And was then on its way to France on the Monday evening earnings its keep.

...only problem is the earlier cars had a mechanical tacho driven by the cam so there's a cutout in the back that I'll need to fill somehow. Cheers Darren Is that cutout the same size as the one in the head? If so you could invert a standard half moon seal to fill the hole. Or buy aftermarket aluminium half moon seals. Cheers Sean

I NEED to know more about that rally-raiding XJ-S. I don't know that much about it, but I do know it is known as the "black pearl". If you google black pearl xjs, you will find a few you tube links for it. Cheers Sean

If it's a Chevy lump, would it not be a big block at 6.6l? If so, they are physically bigger than a 5.7l small block Bung a pic up of it and see what the general concensus on here is Not necessarily. Chevy did do a 400 small block, which is what Mr S thinks he has in his car. The 400 small block had its own block with siamesed cylinders to allow the increase in bore. Stroke was also increased from a 350. But from the outside they look pretty much identical to 350. The big blocks actually started out as low as 366ci, so quite a big overlap in capacity with the small blocks. Confusingly, the 396 big block that you are thinking of were actually 402ci from 1970 onwards! Cheers Sean

The block casting number should be behind the drivers side cylinder head. List of casting numbers are on the mortec website: www.mortec.com/castnum.htmThere is also links on there to explain where all the casting numbers are (heads and block). Cheers Sean

S I/II/III XJ's were designed to take the V12 (and a V12 derived V8).
XJ40 is the one designed not to take a rover V8, and was never intended to have the V12 either. Getting the V12 into the XJ40 turned into a bit of task and required body changes to get it in. It was code named XJ81.

Hi All,
This isn't mine, advertising for a work colleague whose father is giving up driving (the only reason the car is for sale). Words below provided by owner. I don't really want to put his telephone number on an open forum, so please PM for contact details.
1980 AUSTIN MORRIS MAXI 1750 AUTOMATIC. 41,200 MILES FROM NEW. £ 4,000 A unique opportunity to acquire a 1980 classic car which has been cared for with preservation in mind. It is the last ‘brightwork’ version prior to the Mk 2 version that had all black plastic body trim. Originally purchased with, and still retaining, all top specification extras including original, fully functioning automatic transmission which is far superior to the standard, vague, cable-operated manual gearbox version. Also featured are:- # All lower outer bodywork replaced at 30,000miles in June, 2013, using new, original pressings. Major professional renovation included new o/s & n/s main sills, both front wings, front valence and both rear wing arches at a cost of £4,000. # Converted to Hydrolastic all round at 28,359miles eliminating future suspension problems. # Still possesses the original ‘top of the range’ extras available at the time, including velour upholstery and Smiths electric clock. Original radio still fitted and in working order, but requires a new aerial and re-tuning. # Stainless-steel exhaust silencer system fitted at 29,750 miles. A new, unused ‘auto box’ exhaust front down pipe is included in sale. plus:- # Reconditioned brake master cylinder, new AP Lockheed rear brake shoes and bonded front brake pads just fitted; bedding-in mileage only since. # Newly issued MOT certificate. # The original set of four Hydragas suspension units. These have been stored pending confirmation of a reliable and recommended re-gassing procedure and can easily be refitted after overhaul if desired; Hydragas and Hydrolastic units are interchangeable. # Fitted with caravan/trailer towing hitch with wired socket.
Tried to add pictures by dropping them at the bottom, not done that before. No idea if it takes a while for them to appear? I will try adding them again tomorrow

My favourite was many moons ago on a mk3 escort ghia. NOB 80X. I never caught the guy to buy it. Though the car didn't get scrapped with it so maybe still around. Then again, a mate had an xj6 with ABC 150K, Or ABC 15 OK that he did scrap. Then in the late 80s you could get FU2 for £200k with a free E-type! Years ago I had a mk5 Cortina Ghia with the reg NOB 110X. One of my mates always said it was a single O from being worth a fortune!

Having a good clear out at home, and getting rid of stuff that realistically are never going to be any use to me. First up is a proper Ford Granada MkII workshop manual. It is a bit tatty. Last few pages of volume 1 and back cover are missing (not sure how many pages, but only a few affecting the diesel engine section) and volume 2 has the front corner missing of the front cover. Open to offers, but got to be worth £20? Would cost a bit to post as well, as it is pretty thick and heavy. Also a big list of haynes type manuals, all used, unless stated: Vauxhall Victor & Ventora FE autobooks Austin Rover 2.0 ltr diesel engine haynes manual (Montego/Maestro). And there is actually two of these for some reason! BMW 1602/2002 haynes manual Renault Laguna 1994 to 2000 Ford Capri mkI 1300 and 1600 ohv Ford Capri mkI 1600 ohc BMW E21 and E30 6 cylinder haynes workshop manual BMW E21 and E30 6 cylinder haynes service and repair manual Ford Fiesta mkI haynes workshop manual Renault 19 haynes workshop manual (all petrols) Vauxhall Omega 94 to 99 haynes workshop manual (all petrols) Ford Escort mkIII haynes workshop manual Rover SD1 2000, 2300 and 2600 haynes workshop manual Rover SD1 3500 haynes workshop manual Ford Mondeo 1993 to 2000 haynes workshop manual, all perols. Brand new and still in wrapper. Vauxhall Victor FE haynes workshop manual Ford Granada mkII haynes workshop manual, all petrols VW Golf/Jetta mkI 1100 and 1300 petrols. £5 each, or £7.50 posted Cheers Sean
