Sounds like something on the linkage is bent or overtightened. Do you know what the carbs are off originally as there are a few different types of action. Unfortunately I don’t know what they are off I bought them as part of a kit from danST engineering. I have emailed them and have got a response saying that either something is touching the linkage ie the hoses or clamps or there is a problem with the throttle cable although as I stated above I have disconnected the cable and it still does it and the hoses and clamps are not touching the linkage. They said I may have to add another spring on the quadrant to help it return to idle faster? Thanks Rob.

I expect that the carb spindles are not quite in line with each other, so are fighting each other and binding up. Assuming they are the usual silicone hose links to manifold stubs I’d think you’ll just need to slacken the clips a bit and wriggle the carbs about a bit until the throttles move freely and snap back to idle properly before nipping the clips up again. Suspect they’ll likely want a final balance too. Nick Thanks Nick, yes they are just the usual silicone hoses linking the two together. I will try wriggling the carbs and see if that helps. Thanks

Assume all the carbs are balanced and the throttle flaps in sync with each other, it could be as simple as a return spring not working. Thanks for your reply, They seem to be in sync with each other and I can only assume there balanced. I will contacting the company I bought the kit from tomorrow to see what they have to say. I have checked the external springs which all seem to be ok is there internal ones?

Hey guys just wondering if anyone can help? When I rev my escort then let off the throttle the car continues to rev. It is running an 1800 zetec on bike carbs. We have disconnected the throttle cable so I have ruled this out, the only way to rev it up then return it to idle is if you turn the linkage by hand on the carbs. If anyone has any ideas on how to rectify this I would be very grateful! Thanks Rob.

First time using a mop yesterday on the escort you can see how bad the paint was compared to after a few passes with auto finesse one step compound then auto finesse tripple polish. I did the bonnet and the roof as these were the worst areas. Just got the rest to do now 😑

Have you tried gs escorts? Not down south but they break all classic Ford’s, or maybe retro Ford spares Kent? Rob.

Just had a look on their website, there’s a bunch of old photos of various planes and tankers, this one is very similar to the leyland that’s abandoned. Rob.

But is it... the “Ergomatic” cab was used on AEC, Albion and Leyland models. And there was me a bit embarrassed by my Leyland guess after some AEC suggestions only to be saved by yourself thanks Looks like I best get down there again to find out what it definitely is then!

Quick google shows it might be a mid/late 60's Leyland Beaver..........my gut instinct was possibly right although i'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to shoot me down It’s just off the track from Sandown airport so I guess it may have served the airport before it was parked here? I think it maybe an AEC Marshall from having a quick look on google. Definitely been there a while, my father in law works in a unit just up from where it is parked so he may know more about it.

A few jobs completed over the last week, headlights are now fitted, wiring tidied up wrapped with electrical tape and cable tied to other parts of the loom to keep it all looking neat. Need to get some rubber grommets for the nodiz loom through the bulkhead and the back of the glovebox which hopefully I will get this afternoon. I need a bit of advice with a couple of things if anyone would be so kind as to help? First of all is the plug for the fan, (I’m useless with wires so bear with me!!) I have the original one from the car which doesn’t fit the switch in the zetec top hose and I have the zetec plug. So need to join the wires from the car to the plug, the car has two red and black wires crimped together and then one black wire going into the plug. The zetec plug has four wires all of which are purple- two are just purple and two are purple and blue!! So what goes where? Any help is gratefully appreciated guys. I will post a picture to show you what I’m on about.
Thanks Rob
