I always wanted to make one of these into a baby Carlton GSi 3000. I suppose the next step up from that would be a "Lotus Corsa/Nova", perhaps with the 1.8 GM-Isuzu running gear from an M100 Elan... but the 2.0 is always the obvious one. Nova GSi 2000...
Nice car, though. Be a shame to mess it up too much, and it's a really nice find!

Another update, Sunday saw the brakes all bleed up and new antifreeze solution added to the cooling system. Gallon of petrol added to the fuel tank and it was all systems go !! First drive of the car ;D ;D Up and down the close I live in with a big grin on my face. What a little peach she is,was tempted to take a longer drive but resisted...just. No piccys of the event but Ive started to prep the body for the repair I want to do so more to follow. Random piccy of tasty Nova

Just a small update on whats going on. Prep work on the wheel arch to start this coming easter holiday week, hopefully get it all done and painted as the weather is just right. Spent a bit of time just checking through everything and cleaning as I go......results being. The paintwork on the suspension mounting points are as good as new! Inner wings are also spot on. This is almost becoming a restoration project Not what I expected or wanted to be doing but it is so clean its got me thinking. I will get it on the road as a standard car and go from there. The other thought I had was if I hadnt bought this car it was off to the scrapyard because nobody wanted it !! Unbelievable.

Glad you saved it, looks a little stunner. as much as I'd love to see it restored I think a few subtle mods are needed, wheels being the main thing.

It is very clean, I turned down a nova saloon for my first car, and went for a rusty mini instead!

OMG, how on earth is it that such a mint car can be laid up for 10 years and then be considered for scrapping? Great purchase on this, I can see your moral dilemma on whether to modify or not with such a mint base, if all the modifications are bolt on though and can be reversed, where's the harm?

Been busy for part of the day,had a family get together mid day which interupted the proceedings Still got a good start on it though. The only bit of rot on the whole car which I cut out. Removed the rubber side protection bit which left all its glue behind as I will be painting this panel. Made up a new inner wheelarch lip. Cut the new outer skin from a repair panel and placed on to check fit. Once I was happy it all fitted nice out with the welder and grinder. End plate on the cill in place (fuzzy pic!). Back on it tomorrow, more cleaning up and preping for paint to do. I want to get all the paintwork done this week if I can but Ive only got two days left before I'm back at work so we will see.

Busy day, finally got the first coats of primer on after hours of filling and rubbing down. Still not happy yet as the primer has shown up a few high spots. Decided to put a new section in on the other end of the arch. It looked soilid enough but I found some hidden rot under the seam sealer so cut it all out. Seam sealer applied for that factory finish look! More flating to do tomorrow and if all goes well get some colour on ;D

Man this is looking like a very promising little car. Can't believe the condition it's in after all that storage time. You are a lucky man

Looks like this Nova found a great new owner! Amazed that the alternative for the previous owners would be to scrap it. Will be watching this one with interest.

Glad I was able to find this old post. For anyone interested this his how I refinished the car after buying it off eBay way back then. Someone flag it to the previous owner if he’s still on here.
