I've mostly driven estates - this was my last - 3.0 straight 6, 24v, lovely car. My first car was a Teal Blue 1973 Marina Estate. Sold that and then started with my first Cortina Mk 2 estate - I had a late 1600 Super in Blue Mink, a very early Anchor Blue 1500 pre crossflow Mk2, a white series 1 GT, and an Alpine Green series 1 Savage - all estates. While my mates were hooning about in 1600E's and Escort Mk1's and getting pulled over, they never took a second look at me in an Estate.... This is what I'm using for estate duties at the moment - it's mint However, it's incredibly juicy - costing about 50p a mile at the moment... Always fancied something bug and American like this - And this is the one I should NEVER have sold - an original Mk 2 Savage. This was taken after I sold it in 1983 for £250 after I blew the gearbox up. The next owner took off the chrome rostyles and put white ones on - painted the bumpers black - took out the original restall front seats, the extended fuel tank and fitted an odd air assisted rear suspension set up.

Ok, So I've had an Impreza wagon as my daily for about 3 years now. I didn't go out looking for an estate, but it's been the best car I've had (hence having it so long) and now when I look at possible replacements, I end up looking at the estate variant. Now after lurking on here, I feel the need to get something a little older. I'm edging towards an E34 touring, but would like some suggestions. It will be my daily, so can't be too difficult to keep going ( but mpg isn't too much of an issue as the scoob only does low 20's). I went from a 1993 Legacy Turbo Estate a few years ago to one of these - Audi S6 Avant in Nogaro Blue. Last of the 5 cylinder Quattros. The level of quality and comfort was way ahead of the Subaru. I sold it a while ago but still miss it.

Ive always loved estates! They just make so much sense! And if its got some style and some poke then all the better! My dad had both a carlton and omega estate and they were fantastic!

My mates 3, the gold one is a 1.6. The pale blue one is getting a c20xe on bike carbs. The dark blue one has a 3.0 omega v6 and cav turbo gearbox.

And I thought I had a problem! Some cracking rides there. Hadn't thought of that S6. 5 cylinder, 6 speed, 4wd, turbo. Mmmmm. Thanks for posting. No prob. Funnily enough I took a '96 E34 Touring 540i as a trade in against the S6 so I had a direct comparison. The 540i was an auto which I'm not a fan of anyway but even ignoring that, I found it to be a much softer car overall than the Audi. The S6 way much more focused. The BMW V8 engine was nice though. But the 5 cylinder sounded as good. I sold mine with 174K on it and it was still driving perfect. Apparently they will do 300K no prob if you look after tham.
