That Tomos looks alright and the price is good too. Been doing some bits today. Took the clutches out to check them for wear and there good, also modded the 2nd gear clutch by cutting slots into them. This helps channel the oil out when shifting, reduces slipping and the time it takes to engage 2nd gear....apprantly. I'll be using gearbox oil rather than ATF and i'm going to put in 700ml of it instead of the standard 220ml capacity, as this increases 1st gear's shift point and gives a nice smooth shift (tried it before I took the engine out). Standard 1st gear clutch (there not cracked btw, its the rough casting ) Modded 2nd gear clutch (looked like 1st gear one does) Nearly finished the new inlet manifold

I was meaning that the neighbours or the council might take a dim veiw of there being a motorbike there. don't want into trouble. I lived on council estates for over 17 years bud & you should see some of the 'stuff' people keep in their gardens without any hassle. Council usually can't be bothered to be honest, you shouldn't have an issue to be honest. If you looked around you'd probably notice alsorts in people's gardens. As D&O said, if you're not revving the nuts off of it no one's likely to complain. Cheap little ped, just ashame it ain't my neck of the woods.

Kool progress on the inlet.. Looks like it should flow nicely. I need to do similar with mine, Realy not happy with the angle of the standard puch one.
Hope the clutch idea works too. Being a 2 speed I'm guessing you can play with the sprockets a little more than the puch E50 engine..

Yeah the Puch manifolds look so restrictive, should go noticeably better with one that hasn't got a 90 degree bend lol. The standard sprockets are 26/22 and i'm gonna go for 28/22 which according to mopedarmy should give me a top speed of 55mph if the engine will rev that far

ooooooh sounds fun. I bet you'll be like me though. I can get the puch up to about 45mph and still climbing , But then i start letting off due to the impending explosion of the bottom end haha

Time for an update i think Had a few set backs since the last update, was ill for a week, had a loss of 'mojo', then bought a 2nd hand brake lever, to replace the one that broke, but that broke, then bought another one, that broke too, so decided to break an old mountain bike for spares, so i've now got a set of plastic ones fitted that haven't broke Since it's birthday on the 13th, my gf asked what present i'd like, so i told her to get me these ;D Continental ContiGo's, rated to 81mph, much better than the old ones rated to 30mph ;D Didn't take me long to get them fitted Cut of the bracket for the side panels, as most of the racer Tomos's run without them Also fitted a bike computer, as it'll be useful to record max speed etc Did an arty pic too Should have an update on the Puch soon, it's nearly finished

Looking damn good dude....
I'm running the puch without side panels too.. Gets a bit sketchy some times when you suddely ask yourself , "did i tuck my shoelaces in?" What with that sprocket spinning right there...
Might refit mine in a cutdown manor..

Got the 70cc kit today ;D Difference in piston size Try on the inlet manifold i made, i used measurements i found on mopedarmy, fits spot on I ordered it from this ebay seller YPV Spares. I ordered this Saturday morning and recieved it at half 12 today, he always posts things fast and is very helpful, highly reccomended. Just waiting for the rest of the parts to come from America now. Got a Mikuni 20mm carb coming, with a selection on main jets, a 28t front sprocket and a new little end bearing. Shouldn't be long now till its running ;D

Me too....hoping to do a solid 50mph on this Did a quick mock build earlier, to see what it looks like put together Noticed this bit on the reed valve, anyone know if one is meant to be higher than the other?

This week, I finally had all the parts together (after paying a £20 customs charge ) So I quietly carried on with fitting all the parts and getting the engine running, so I could suprise everyone on here Today was the day, it was ready to start. It started on the 3rd kick and idled beautifully, so I let it idle for a minute, gave it a few revs and turned it off to let it cool down. Then after a check over, I took it up the road for a spin.....HOLY SH1T THIS IS QUICK! Literally, give it the slightist bit of throttle and it's off, and if you don't put your weight over the handlebars, it'll wheelie for however long you want! Some pics after my ride I'm not sure how to run this in really, I was just thinking of taking it slow at first and gradually increasing the revs/speed?

Morning, this is looking ace, and really not helping me resist getting one as my next project!
Running in is a funny thing, I suggest just riding down winding country lanes using about 3/4 of the available throttle travel for about 40 or 50 miles.
As these are only single ring and there is no oil control to speak of, you just need to bed in the first ring. Riding using up to 3/4 throttle will increase the gas pressure in the cylinder, pushing the ring outwards in the the bore wall.
When new the bore wall will have cross hatchings on it, these are actually lots of little peaks and the running in process will cause the ring of push into these and take the tops off or fold them flat against the cylinder wall, this slight roughness that is left will retain oil from the fuel and allow the ring to skate over the surface without actually touching the bore wall. You can break it in fast by using blasts of full throttle but you will end up with a well sealed cylinder that only lasts for a few hours riding time. Bed it in too slowly and you will end up making the bore very smooth, this is actually a poor surface for sealing against gas pressure and you will end up with less power and higher fuel consumption.
So, run it with some average quality, probably non synthetic 2 stroke oil (synthetic has too many friction reducers for running in) for a tank full down winding country lanes, and you should be all good.

you get decent wheelies!!! Well done! I can sorta get the puch to lift its wheel but the clutch (only one) takes a while to dig in due to the high end gearing... Making me want a tomos now ;D Well done on getting it all sorted too. That mean its on the road or you still got bits to do?

It's pretty much finished now, just got to do a couple of bits like fitting a chain guard and doing my CBT.
As for running in, that sounds like a good plan, i've only been using about half throttle and doing heat cycles, so i'll contuine doing that, but i've been using synthetic oil, so not sure wheter to carry on now, or switch to non-synthetic?
