First off thanks to all the parking fine replies.
Seems like I'm having a string of bad luck. Took my Datsun to a garage 3.5 weeks ago, never used him before, the guys been stalling me for ages and it's been almost a month, whenever I go the place is closed, the guy doesn't answer my calls but texts feeding more curse word.
Sorry again for the non retro topic but I've got no idea what to do, was thinking of cutting the locks tomorrow to see if my cars there!

What Datsun is it, where are you, and what was it in for. Is it a specialist or just normal garage?

Go to his place, text him you came to see him but it appears his workshop is on fire and ask if hes been told, he will be there in a few minutes and then you can see him face to face

Yeah, moAr info is required really, but basically, if you feel your being 'had' I'd be inventing a situation that got the garage owner down there quick-sharp for a face to face chat.

i'd camp out, wait till they open up. then go for a look for your car. if they're honest there should be no harm in letting you see it.

Is this a proper 'legit' garage? Doesn't sound it...
But as above, one way or another you need to get the owner down there pronto.

is this your 280z? text the guy to say police etc will be called if he doesn't reply etc be careful with the fire thing as he may then call the fire brigade on his way down , we wouldn't want to tear them away from a pool game would we?

Yep it's my 280zx, I was getting exhaust and manifold sorted, place is in Leicester, ive managed to track down the landlord and I've told him I'm gna hurt him pretty bad if he doesn't open the place up for me, so he agreed to help me break the locks lol I just wanna take my car out of there, problem is I doubt he'll have my keys just hanging about, so might go to the police first and see if they can do anything

If the landlord will do that - have them swapped but leave your car in place for now - then when he(garage bod) can't get in - the landlord can meet him, along with yourself (heavily armed )....... or - along Grays suggestion - call telling him the Bailiffs are letting you have your car back as you had the doc's with you - but the rest is being low-loadered....... he should be there quick enough I'd have thought. He may fall back on the reasoning that he's worked on the car - you're also still liable for payment and he can withhold the car until payment is made - if you go plod route - as I'm fairly sure that is still permissable (check though).

best bet really is to phone the old bill and ask them what can be done as you suspect he has made off with it or is planning to. They might do a bit of further research and find out he's actually involved in car crime and go down there with a warrant.

Surely the landlord has a home address for his tenant, go knocking on doors if he does.

Sounds to me a little early to be taking such drastic action. Yeah 3.5 weeks is a longish time but do remember we have been hit with snow and then holidays lately so that could answer to why it is taking him longer than normal. I would just ask him straight whats going on, I love it how people jump in with the ridiculous threats suggestions (as if they would actually follow through with it themselves!).

Monster, I don't think the problem is weather the work has been done or not, so much as the fact he can't get hold of the garage that are in possession of his car to see what's going on with it.
To the OP, all I can suggest that hasn't been said already is phoning from other peoples numbers/with-held numbers.

Update; I text and called the guy several times last night and this morning, punchline being that if I didn't get a response then 'damage would occur' as I nicely put it. Anyway no response, so I went down this morning, took a couple of lads, armed with an extension lead and an angle grinder lol literally as I'm pulling up on the road I get a call from his mate, saying can you come and pick your car up. So I think fair do's, I go in and here's the story:
The guy I was dealing with didn't actually own the garage, he was the mechanic there and so worked front house. He failed to mention to the owner he had a case going on, and to cut a long story short he's now behind bars :/ hence the no contact. The chap I was speaking to was the owners son, and he had a lot of angry customers there, 1 particular guy came to pick up his car to find it on a ramp with no gearbox!
Anyway my cars now not starting for some reason, but a combination of my angle grinder, curse word off disposition and car full of steroid junkies resulted in a kind offer from the guys to fix my car free of charge. woohooo

Yeah and if you had angle grinded his face you would have probably ended up behind bars yourself.
Anyway I'm glad you have your car back!

lol monster I'd never resort to that, violence can however usually be avoided if you put on a very violent front, quite ironic that.. it's a pretty basic job overdrive so I'll leave them to it, I would do it myself but cold weather and, cold weather are preventing me!
