Hi! This might be an odd request - but what are goode shoes for driving? I never bother with anything but Chucks so far - and found them good for driving; thin, flexible sole, good feel for the pedals. But - since it is winter and my god old Chucks are rather shot - I'm looking for something to replace them. But - what? I no next to nothing about shoes ;D What I 'need': good feel for the pedals, support for the anckles (no much, but a bit at least) - and they shouldn' look like purpose-build, racey race-shoes in vivid colurs; brown or black without stripes would be good. Hope you guys have some advice - it's a very important piece of cloting for a die hard motorist ;D Thanks! Cheers, Jan PS: I'm not sure wheter I should post some pics of said Chucks or not... ;D Have a Hako instead....

I personally find worn in skate shoes give good feel and generally are great for driving. Might just be 'cos I've not really worn any other footwear when driving though?

I like wearing my Dunlop Green Flash for driving, about 14 quid online - so easy to replace if they get messed up. Something with a thin, flexible sole is best though

I like to just wear an old pair of trainers, but I also find Airwalks pretty comfy.

I only wear skate shoes anyway, so its natural I would only drive in them. Super comfy and fine for long distance.

In converses they kinda wrap round the pedal, it's like being barefoot. I don't like driving in my steelcap boots though, they get stuck above the pedals. I'm probably most comfortable in my clarks-style leather shoes. Grippy and solid enough for my titchy non-rubbered pedals but loose enough to move. A mate of mine nearly went to his driving test in flipflops.

You can't go far wrong with a pair of Vans - I should know - I've got nearly 30 pairs and rarely wear anything else!

I find Chucks to be great for driving in. Like you say, thin sole gives a nice feel of the pedals, and they are flexible. When I'd just passed my test, I couldn't drive in anything heavy-soled. Now I drive in anything although I prefer lighter footwear. For the classic driving shoe, look no further than the JP Tod "Gommini" - designed with driving in mind, and perfectly at home on the feet of the gentleman taking his ladyfriend on a weekend soujourn in the mountains. A weekend bag in the boot of the Alfa Romeo Spider, jumper slung casually over the shoulders, leather driving gloves to give purchase on the wooden steering wheel whilst navigating the snaking roads, girl with headscarf and big sunglasses enjoying the crisp air and breathtaking views.... Ciao bella! ;D

shoe thread alert!
I wear everything and anything for driving. Doesn't make much difference TBH. Only shoes I find are a problem are winkle pickers if they get caught behind any dash parts or brothel kreepers because they are so rigid on the sole they give no feel at all. If I'm out in them and driving I drive in something else and change my shoes when I get there.
I drive barefoot when its warm anyway.
Converse, Vans, fakes of the above brands, all good. But then Doc Martens are fine to drive in.

I bought some absolutely terrible Clark's deck shoes when I was learning, but as I felt the feel from the pedals really helped me drive I guess I overlooked the fashion element Nowadays I can drive in anything but I still prefer thin-soled shoes/trainers because of the increased feel.

Not boots - size 11 = three pedals at once. Converse will one day rule the world. Specially as I get discount. ;D
