I see, from looking under the bonnet, an alarm has been installed...... Dead as a Kipper tho! ..... notwithstanding .... I really miss the 'plip' lock on my previous SAVVY. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00L6EFE3W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Wiring seems fairly straightforward, mind :/ Blue/White = triggers doors 'LOCK' Blue/Yellow = triggers doors 'UNLOCK' .... job for first fine/warmish/light day, methinkks OVIMOR

As already mentioned, this is one of the best eras of motorsport for me...
I've always thought the Carina has a lot of untapped potential. I'm sure there's a lowered one near me which is often being driven hard...

I'm sure there's a lowered one near me which is often being driven hard... The crash in that vid has been shown so many times, but it sort of makes you forget how damn good the rest of the race was, I struggle to think of a more contstantly exiting race, it was, as they say, lit. And those carinas show they are just as good as anything else from their time. I really want a super touring spec carina now. And a mondeo. And a Cavalier......

Years ago my local taxi firm had a guy who owned a Carina-II 1.6 base model from brand new. It had been driven every single day of it's life and had over 600,000 miles on the speedo. I thought that was impressive until he told me that he had only just had the original exhaust replaced.

I love my Carina Too, see what I did there. It’s another 1.6 GL. A nice low miles minter, which I have put 18k on in the last 3.5 years. I run a set of alloys in the summer and the skinny steels with winter rubber in the salting season. Its not very quick, but apart from the silly soft dampers they actually handle very nicely thanks to the decent rear end suspension. I have a set of lowering springs and bilstein dampers to fit, eventually, which will fix the boatyness. Of course there was the 2l GLi model, which is nice and gutsy. And I even found a good one. But the nice thing about the GL is a simple carb with no computer, and decent mpg. Niggles have included replacement of the clutch slave and master cylinder, a broken tape player, and oil leaks from the rocker cover. The worst niggle was the o ring in the distributer failed, which required sourcing a secondhand one, and stripping the original to extract the original, which required buying a small centre punch to knock out the pin that holds the drive gear. I would recommend using a genuine rocker gasket as the aftermarket ones go hard very quickly.

This is my old carina ll Gli executive a few years ago. I wanted to keep it for a long time. It was an excellent car to drive, very smooth and very retro. And then some one ran into the side and it looked like this I'd just got it back from the garage who fitted 40mm lowering springs. a set of Lexus is200 17 alloys freshly powder coated in black were ready to be fitted. Never fitted them as I was gutted. I'm still on the look out for an other good one.

There is a low miles 1.6 hatch on car and classic but he's taking the curse word on the price cause he bought off here for about a grand.

It was a great motor. My replacement has to be the 2.0 gli executive model. For me any other model below that is not the same drive and comfort.

If he does go for it, tell him I've got an event I'd like him to be at He's not going to be buying anything this year. We've just had a very expensive refurb at work What's the event?
