the camper was in furbers when I went last year, it was in the prees heath branch off the A49, and was in the storage yard - with LOTS of other old tat - so I imagine it's still there
probably best to ring them first, I can't remember how complete it was - but they should be able to help you out - good to deal with, but a bit pricey!!

I was thinking adapter plate.. don't suppose anyone knows the difference in length between the big block an short block 8v motors? the bell housings are the same for the vauxhall engines except the older push rod type its just getting a small clutch to go on what ever gear box you are planning on using

hi carmad, I didnt word my question properly lol.. I wondered if there was any difference in length between the 1400 8v an the larger 1600+ variants? also do you know if the bolt on dizzy thing that reverses the dizzy to the front of the motor fits the smaller 8v motors

Ive got a full manta dizzy set up in the shed,i`ll count how many teeth it has in the morning for you.If its got the same number of teeth as your 1.4 one i cant see why it wouldent fit.Can send you afew picys if you want to see what you think? The blocks are the same size. The 1.6 is basically just a bored out 1.4.Its not til you get to the 1.8/2.0 "big block" engines that they change.

Manta and carlton boxes will bolt straight on and the manta 1800 flywheel/clutch will bolt up to the 1.4 crank no probs.

All depends how much money you`ll need to throw at it tho.Would be nice to see the 1159 with abit of head work, nice exhaust manifold and aset of bike carbs or something.Would be different to all the xe conversions thats for sure. If you can find the c14se multipoint injection engine you`d be on to a good winner. They can shift abit for a 1.4 and do really well on fuel.Nice and simple to work on too.

Really feeling the camper van vibe at the minute, particularly the car based ones - and huge respect for taking on such a rusty case, you're a braver man than I. However whilst looking for something else amongst the web I found a pic of the Caravanette Kev from Wales mentions at Furbers yard Pictures are dated April 2009

Just finishing rebuilding one of these for a customer myself... mind you it was marginally less rusty and has a mint interior, also did a full engine build on it.. Just waiting for paint, then it'll be done.. mid resto

nice !!!!! both those are SL spec vans, mine is s DL spec (only a single side chrome trim) have a look at that one you just restored an get me some pics of the little fold away tables in the back if its not too much trouble please?
Carmad.. had to go and see an intact car to get that diagram as there isnt enough left of mine to even see what shape they used to be. . . lol
as to welding.. still trying to sort a workshop out as the drive is a bit of a no no as tried the other night an within seconds had an audience of young kids.. and I wont be popular if they all get arc eye lol..
that camper at Furbers is a mk1 roma (tailgate opens from bottom and has wooden fold out sides wheras mk2 has rear canvas concertina like mine..) so a very rare beast.. might drop them a bell see what the score is with it...
cheers for the replies to the thread though guys.. nice to know people are still checking in..
as to the van itself.. progress is as Follows.. had two large sheets of metal turn up.. 1.2mm for the floor and 1.5 for the rails and other structurals .. will post a piccy thread of the manufacture of the chassis rails and stuff, but on hold for a little while as need to get camper no2 ready for the game fairs this easter weekend (I did mention I had another camper didnt I ??)
also.. turns out mine might be the only known DL Roma known at the moment to the dormobile register as the majority of the 200 built were built on the higher trim level SL vans

No problem, this one has two tables but they don't fold they sort of latch in either side of the rear bench seat.
