I am not an expert by any stretch of imagination but here's some opinions on those above /\ JS, I find that tree with all the shrubbery/ivy? on it a bit distracting behind your car particularly when it is sprouting out of the roof and especially in the wide angle shots. Having said that I think my favourite is that second from last, low angle one as the car is nice and sharp and the blurr of the fore/back grounds make it stand out nicely. I don't mind the grille being in shadow at all, in fact it might be a good thing as with direct low angle sunlight on it all of the matt blacked bits will probably become very mid-grey and spoil the look of the chrome details. dazgtti, I find the pylon and the steel unit on the left of the photo a bit distracting but its a nice angle. Hatch under the bridge is nice, as is the Subaru on the empty road, really like the framing of those hedges either side. First Porsche one feels a bit too central in the shot and the second Porsche one is spoiled by the other parked car. Hirst, the priorities when taking that main photo were clearly wrong. Do you not have a zoom function?  bigkris, the similar colour of the unit behind your car makes it more difficult to see the car if you know what I mean. I like the way you've used some of the things that were available though, like that metal enclosure with the door ajar. |

exactly the same as JS I had a go yest so have a look and critisicm welcome as this is the first time I have tried something like this:  Hey, this shot is top. The car follows the perspective of the roofline into the vanishing point, and the low angle emphasises the stance of the suspension. I'd have touched out the 'DSW' on the container right at the back, as my eye likes to concentrate on shapes rather than lettering (excluding the Jetta's number plate of course). Thank you. I have not edited any of these as when i put gimp onto my laptop it plays up so i have no editing equipment their straight out of the camera as it were. I'm chuffed that you like that one as i see what you mean about the vanishing point etc so i can remember that for next time. bigkris, the similar colour of the unit behind your car makes it more difficult to see the car if you know what I mean. I liked the ones with the bin and cage had a good feel to it  next time i want to go further away than a mile and take longer in a better setting. its an awsome feeling when you get home and look back and see the results of your 'vision' as it were. |

No matter how close to the floor you are, the horizon still exists, try and keep it horizontal  Also, try and get the whole subject in, if you are cropping on purpose try to do it evenly  |

I take it you're using a point-and-shoot with auto focus?   To my mind, the second pic is better than the first because the focus is better. Focus first by half-depressing the shutter, and then with it still half-depressed lower it to the floor. Or place it on any handy object that raises it slightly; your Coke can might do . Just to avoid it focusing on the ground directly in front of you. I'm pondering getting a Gorilla-pod when I have some spare money, I've heard good things of them for 17 quid or so.  Pick of the bunch for me, I like it a lot |

Thanks for the replies on the pics.The porsche on the lane wasnt laid out like that for the picture i was walking back from taking some others and spotted them.Heres a couple more of the white subaru at thoresby hall.   |

The 2nd one I quoted is win definaltly the right idea.Also the light is perfect.Not too harsh never shoot at midday or near. First one I quoted I wanted to see this from more of a 4/3 angle to see abit more of the front. You definatly have the right idea they look alot like my own beginner shots.Just practice practice practice. |

there are some obvious flaws and issues in these 2 photos. the first one mostly regarding composition. but the point i would like to make is super simple - have a clean car. further more panel gaps and odd shades of panels don't help but post processing can sort out all the issues in these photos.   |

get down low to the ground and try wide angle shots. panoramics can work well for getting photos at shows too.

I'm only an amateur myself but i try to get different angles and stuff and focus on key points to mix it up a bit:      my advice is probably pants but it works for me. i suppose you could mess around with contrast and all that but I'm stupid so don't bother ;D |

it's all about composition with cars. Backdrop/surroundings can also make a car look much better or worse.

This one works really well imo, excellent composition.  This one is also very good and I really like the angle and focal length, however I feel it'd have been better as a landcscape shot with the car on the right hand side with the same angle, and some more space to the left showing the full shadow of the car and having the front of the car pointing into the frame.  this shot is also potentially really good but the foreground and car seem a little dark, and the reflection on the car looks a little harsh  but as I have done here that can be rectified with a little post processing...  |

Ok, here's my question: not having a car of my own to gaze at lovingly and to photo, I tend to just take photos at shows. How do I take a decent photo at a show? Problem I find is just that I end up with loads looking the same. It can be tricky to get good photos at shows for obvious reasons. It can take a while to wait for other people to move out of the way particularly if you want to take a picture of a car everyone wants to look at. As has been said different angles can help and get a mix of portrait and landscape. Sometimes I might take a picture of a car that I might otherwise not simply because it is possible to get a nice shot. Also rather than just taking shots of cars while standing by them have a play with zooming in from a distance. This can lead to more "people" problems but adds variety. Obviously people can also sometimes be used to add atmosphere. It all depends what you want - to simply document what was there or to provide a feeling of what the show was like. This isn't the best shot but I waited ages to try and get no people in it and ended up giving up to a degree. I suppose I could crop out the leg on the left and hand on the right.  This photo would be pretty boring without the two blokes though.  |
