For a primer i would recomend U-pol acid etch no.8 As for getting rattle cans made, most paint suppliers will oblige, but it'll be an expensive way of doing it

How about brush painting it ?. I did a lightweight Landie with brushed etch primer and then coachpaint. You can get a good finish, must use a high quality brush though. Try some of the suppliers who do the paint for narrow boats etc.

"WIN"and hit up your local paint/decorating suppliers like leyland paints and they can mix you any colour you like in just about any finish you like and a matt fininsh "eggshell" should good and tuff the paint will fade quicker id o thought but as it should cost less than a night out stickin another coat on yearly wouldn't be the end of the world well thats what I'm plannig to do when I my next retro ;D How about brush painting it ?. I did a lightweight Landie with brushed etch primer and then coachpaint. You can get a good finish, must use a high quality brush though. Try some of the suppliers who do the paint for narrow boats etc. we used to do this with the work vans, works well, you can get just as good results with thinned down gloss but takes a couple more coats

When I worked at the spray shop it was called 'Pirate Black' - but this one looked metallic black until the light hit it, then it glittered purple colour.

hehehe this was the result of random thoughts at lunch. comes mostly from the comment on my 'drive home of win' thread that i should paint a Landy the colour of my hair. i should just point out i've already got a mini the same colour as i used to have my hair: old hair: Mini: xXxXx

Taking accessorising to the extreme. Any proper paintshop should be able to mix something up to your spec and stick it in cans for you. Or alternately, find a mate with a spray gun and compressor. Paint is cheaper in tins, and you can teach yourself how to spray.

As said rattle cans are dear and spraying requires either money or tooling. I would definitely not suggest that you do a rush job, prep and masking are well worth taking the time doing. Having said that I completely ignored my better judgment and painted my van in a matt Milka bar kinda hue with a mix of left over undercoat/red oxide/hammerite from the cupboard. The finish ain't too sad, just wish I had spent more time masking up All in it cost a grand total of £2.69 to paint as I had to chuck the roller as had used all the white spirit trying to stretch out the top coat. Got some pics somewhere if anyone can bear (another) 97 Tranny pic on RR

"take the mini to the paint shop ,they'll have loads of "swatches" that you can match your paint with (well 99% of them do) p.s wicked hair" ...take the purple hair to the spray shop and match it to a swatch ..as you can see I am still to master the quote code!!!

I think you might want to have chat with JohnnySomerset. He's currently rolling a satin purple Cedric (the car has been dropped quite a bit since I took this pic) I don't think the shading/fading effect was totally intentional because it was only a quick bit of paint while he saves up money & time for his proper spray job.
