My last daily was a '53 S60 D5 SE auto in metallic black with Volvo's Sportpack suspension and 18" R alloys. 115000 miles and never put a foot wrong. That was my fourth 'modern' Volvo in the last ten years (the others were an F reg 480, an L reg 460 and a W reg S40). My stepdad's always had Volvos (currently an S40 and an XC70), and my dad's now got a V40 after having had nothing but Escort estates since the early 70's.
Unreliable and badly built? I think not - I'd have another Volvo in a heartbeat...

i've owned a V70 2.5 auto classic for 2 years, and my current p2 V70 bifuel for 2.5 yeard now. mins had most of the front suspension redone so that it isnt clonking, the gas system is a joke, and i'm current waiting for the box to blow (btw my parnets one blew on a V70 classic with only 50k on it. sounds like you got a good un, lucky you! ahahahahahahaha volvo, build quality??? volvo, reliability? your having a laugh arnt you??? there built outta jelly moulds (suspension part mainly), badly build (climat control failing, ETM failing everywhere, auto boxes not lasting want me to go on) as for reliable, I find that dubious, esp when I keep hearing of XC90 tramissions failing within 10,000 miles the older stuff was ace, but they new stuff is horrible. And there's someone who hasnt owned one, and I doubt has any evidence to back any of that up? My dad had a V70 D5 Auto for 4 years and 100k and absolutely nothing went wrong. In fact, he liked it so much he had another one, in which he did another 100k in just 2 years and again, nothing! Both were company cars and had very hard lives, often towing 1300kgs of car trailer, loaded to the roof with holiday luggage and 5 people. Brilliant reliable, practical, comfortable and surprisingly fun cars! If they were unreliable heaps of junk then I doubt they would have been the TrafCop's favourite for so long!
