I am thinking of getting a bedford ca again.But with me having the ford spectron bus i am now use to better speed.So any idea what chassis would fit under a bedford ca,so you could drop the bedford body on.I think this would be easyer than fitting a diffrent engine and axle.

I'm dropping a CF bod onto a rangie chassis but theres a 6" difference in wheelbase, whats the CA's wheelbase?

Its a good question and so far is coming down to the whole IVA question, I'm swinging toward leaving the chassis and remodeling the shell to suit (thus hopefully avoiding the dreaded test) but a big part of me says cut the chassis, build the car as i want and then hit the test head on..... its a dilema but one thats best worked out from the start ;D

you could extend the hockey bars on the rangey and add new spring/shock mounts onto the bars so the chassis was unmodified, that would push the axle backwards, it should also not effect your ID points as the suspension is essentially the same as it always was, and theres not really much handling to ruin on a LR chassis.

Bedford ca wheel base is short w.b 90 long w.b 102 . Wth is 70 length 154 or 166

a SWB will fit right on a landrover 90 then funnily enough, rangey chassis is 100" wb

A CA on a 90 chassis would be lovely, never heard of that done before either ;D What sort of vehicle are you wanting, fast, practical or way out there?
Quick Q on IVA, would moving the suspension top mount be a suspension or a chassis mod?

surely if you put a ca onto a 90 chassis it would take the 90 Id and would lost its historic ved status? that would annoy the mammaries off me.

Hi guys , I think you will find the LR 90 chassis has a wheelbase of about 94 inches. Which might workout ok for a CF!

Now you mention it, i thought it was 92"  The Landie idea would be fairly practical but there is the reg issue as mentioned, using a leafer would be like de-inventing the car LMAO What big two wheel drive chassis's are there out there from about the right era? |

I understand it would take the id away from a bedford ca.But i have had a few of them and they are not the fastest thing around to keep up with today cars.So i love classic vans,so i like the idea of having a classic van but with modern running gear.It looks like no matter what you do to a classic if you change things you could lose the original id.I am not a driver that likes to go fast but i do like to get to the place were i want to get in ok time and not at a slow speed.So the easyist thing for me was get a ca and put it on modern chassis.Its hard to please every one,but i want to please me.

Good atitude ;D I get comments about the CF and how could i chop up an original and solid MURVI camper but at the end of the day I'm building a car for me and I intend to keep it so I'll do what I want with it LMAO Have you thought about scimitar chassis's? I don't know much about the dimensions for them but its a good base engine wise etc and it could be LPG'd to offset fuel costs. failing that and if your not to worried about speed and prefer the idea of diseasel then I always thought that Nissan cabstar chassis's would be a nice thing to work with, we used them at one of the companys i was with and although they are hateful little vans they are fairly nippy, good on fuel and already have a good layout with forward steer etc? |

i suppoose it might be an idea to compile a list of vehicles which could provide donor chassis fo projects
the land rover range is probably the most common and comes in a range of lengths and coil or cart springs and several companies do new replacements and if you like, occasional 6 wheelers turn up
another possible chassis donor is the toyota hilux surf which seem to turn up on the bay with engine problems
i have to appologise as i cannot supply any dimesional info but perhaps someone else could fill the gaps

Hi i have thought about the nisssan cabstar but i think the wth is about 60inc wide and the ca is 70inc.I am after a chassis that i could fit a ca body on but it sits low.

cabstar does not have a seperate chassis, like a lot of commercial pickuptrucks they have a chassis at the back welded to the underneath/back of a monocoque cab, no good for basing a special on.

I was told in a previous thead about this that they were definately not seperate chassis?
Just had a look myself, they do look seperate to me too as it happens, cant find any pics of a naked chasssis though.
