Great stuff, another old Ford weldathon. Looking forward to plenty of pics... ;D Cheers oldbus, somehow I cant see me working at the same pace as you did with the Capri :-) Anyways time for another update Fitted the 'A' post. This took twice as long as expected as expressed steel were not able to make / deliver an a post for 12 months !! anyways Ken B from 105speed came to the rescue with a second hand 'a' post and flitch. I spent the best part of 4 hours unpicking all the parts, cleaning em up, repairing em even before I started to weld em on. I forgot to put the spacers in -- doh so i'm cutting some tube behind the hinges to cure the problem.. I'll let the pictures do the talking.. Cut the outer skin off and the inner frame was spot on - note the braces to support the dash tried door on and lined up spot on - well chuffed Outer skin on Sorry for crappy picture - poor light in workshop A quick lick of paint and put suspension back in Onto the rad panel - this was reason why I wanted engine crossmember in to get correct spacing for crossmember. Crossmember fitted - also started to fill inner wings :-) And finally now some strength in the panel - trial fitted the engine Only resting on wood at the moment but fits with no mods to transmission tunnel or bulkhead (yet) I plan to move it back maybe another inch but thats it for now ....

Well thought it time for an update, at last i can work on my car for a change instead of every one elses  I've just finished a MK2 mexico which is the reason for the long break. That and finding money for the Milton parts I needed - i've also been collecting other stuff, bit of wheeling and dealing to earn some dosh like you do . So time for some updates of the estate As it looks after it's long lay up (about 18 months) Yep still rotton Mot standard floor plate riveting Even the gearbox tunnel is rotton  All the Milton goodies, these were being made when Kevin at Milton very sadly passed away. I didnt have the heart to ring so just left it for the them to sort. I did get a call a month later to say ready and that Kevin was working on these during his ill health. Very sad. While I painted the Escort parts decided to paint my axle for a Mojo boost. total waste of time as I need to weld the 'a' frame brackets on Under the riveted plates I found this Fitted the axle in to get back on it's wheels (will come out again when time required. Looks good and all new bushes fitted I've no tyres on my lotus steels so these escort sport rims with super size tyres will have to do Back to the rot quite solid at rear Starting to cut rot (sorry for picture quality)

sorted some more pictures out, picture quality does get better, the rot dosn't N/S inner sill chopped out, the centre sill is in good nick and just need a clean up Differant set up from a saloon to estate so this will need some rework as inner sill I bought is for the saloon model. Inner sill fitted Lots of old floor !! O/s Inner sill fitted Closing section finished o/s and for the N/s That should put some strength back in the very weak shell, ready for the next stage .. Lots of views but no comments, must be my picture quality oh well i'll persevere.

Cheers Next update - more cutting and welding (well more cutting than welding) SO what do you do when the gearbox tunnel is rotten?? Heres a clue Yep graft another in, made sense to use the gearbox tunnel from the Silvia I cut up - can use the gearbox mounts / position for gear lever and room underneath if I need to do any service work etc.. So I took a brave pill and cut the old bulkhead out (it was very rusty at the seam anyway so something had to be done) I plan to use some of this so put to one side for later And thats what it looks like now with that removed. side by side shot roughly line engine up - didnt realise it should have a lean to until started to sort the datum line out .. Line the pulley up and trial fit the tunnel lines up cock at the rear - bonus nice line up for the gear lever as expected - yeah ANd pretty good here too SO next job to get welding -

That engine goes in like a factory option. I couldn't believe how compact that box looks, and if you shortened the remote, you wouldn't need any mods to get it in. As it is, however, you couild legitimately claim the the new trans tunnel is a repair, as the original was rotten. That engine/box combo looks like a viable option for quite a few cars, due to the compact size.

I'm sure you won't, I think i'd have felt guilty if id have ripped a minter apart as it is this thing was edging on it's trip the great anglebox in the sky. So i'm glad to try and resurect it .. Cheers Cheers, I did think about the twin cam unit but to be honest I felt it was too big for this car, as it is it fits a treat and the car its come from is a genuine low mileage unit (rotton as usual) but I ran it and all seemed ok. The gearbox is actually lighter than the original cast unit being all ally. And the engine is not much biiger than the anglia, by time all the pulleys taken off etc there wont be much in it. As for the tailshaft I don't need to shorten it. This is a 997cc shell which had a fixed crossmember. On the 1200 shells they had a bolt in one which I have robbed off a breaker. WHen I turn the car over i'll fit the bolt in crossmember so remove and refit with the silvia tunnel will be piece of cake .. :-) Time for another update, once again I apologise over some of the images I'm really struggling. Problem is the garage has very poor artifical light and where the car is parked is a large window so it's causing me lots of issues. You can tell the pictures taken when the sun is not shining on the window. Oh well less of the moaning and lets get some more pics up As the estate is not going to be used as an estate when finished I did not need to replicate the standard floor. So as I recently rebuilt a MK2 Mexico I had the chance to offer some Escort floor pans in the rear which fitted spot on. My plan is as the build progresses that the exhaust will fit under the n/s one and I may fit the battery on the o/s one in a recess. Time will tell. SO first job is to trim the Silvia tunnel back and fit the rear floor pan in after some minor trimming, I plan to form a skid panel underneath the close the rear crossmember up Then onto the front chassis leg which was quite badly corroded, I couldn't quite make my mind up what to do so in end I bit the bullet and made one after buying some correct guage steel as original Flat piece welded in first used jacking point as a gauge then formed the other half welded in place then made a box section for the silvia gearbox mount to chassis end. from underneath (still to finish) formed a new bulkhead panel for the o/s and made a new floor pan for the front section and welded in place And that is it for now
