Nice bit of info there, thanks:) often wondered.
For anyone who cares, here's what mine are;
van - Reading - that will be orignal dealer plates then, got it in Slough now in se London, done many miles but always lived fairly local. bike - Chelmsford car - Ipswich, thats where I bought it from, thrashed it home, it survived so we kept it, now the good ladies daily + first car.
All the above have 450,000 miles between them, but the bikes clocked more in the back of the transit.

2002 is sw london. senator is luton (natch ) wartbrug is YBJ- registered in ipswich. but then I knew that because I registered it there in june this year ;D My kawasaki is manchester. 3 out of four of those have been imports, from jersey, hungary and japan

Hrrrm.
Amazon wears a central London plate. Which makes sense because the first owner worked for Reuters in the centre of London.
Piazza is from Reading. It's had 10 owners before me so it's been all over the place. It's definitely done some time in Cornwall because I found the staff pass from a holiday park down the back of the seats.
Celeste is from Nottingham. It still has the dealer plates and sticker on there.
My old Renault 10 was from Bristol. Which is a bit weird because the first owner lived in Oswestry.
Everything else I've had has been Manchester based.

The Beetle was asigned a non transferable plate in the 80's so no idea.

Current fleet...
