Well i'm all finished at Uni now so in my last week i had to take advantage of the stuff there while i could still make stuff for free. The first thing i wanted to make was an adaptor to take a temperature sensor for the DTA ignition. I started off with a Mocal aluminum adaptor and i cut the end off of it, i then put it in the lathe and turned it down so it was nice and flat and drilled a 10.2mm hole in it. I then found out that the sensor had a M12x1.5 thread on it Bloody French! Luckily one of the lecturers at Uni had a tap that size so i borrowed that and cut the thread in it. I finished the adaptor off by PTFE taping the thread and adding a rubber sealing washer so hopefully it won't leak at all: I also made another bracket for the CPS which should fit a bit better and be a lot stronger than the last one i made (which is now in a bin somewhere ;D) The last thing i made was a new gear rod because the old one was looking fairly skanky and i just wanted to tidy it up a bit: As far as the car goes i replaced the heater matrix for this nice new Nissens one: Bloody good job too as the old one was shagged, also the box where the matrix sits was full of dirt and leaves so i should have saved a bit of weight ;D. I was in Bath yesterday so i stopped in Snooks and got some skateboard grip which i wanted to line the footwell with. When i started the footwell was completly rank: After a quick clean: And after i laid the grip: Much nicer ;D. I then went a bit insane (must be the sunlight ;D ) and got the Autosol out, i polished up the footplate for the passenger footwell: and then went completly insane and polished up the topmounts: Heres my to-do list for the car: Should have some more updates soon, thanks for reading.

Good work!
At the beginning of this thread you're talking about modifying Skip Brown's spring cups to fit Compbrake's topmounts. I guess there's also some place selling a complete bolt-on solution? I'd like to have excentric topmounts on my 309 (after I convert it to GTi suspension) but I don't have access to a lathe.

You can buy GrpA top mounts from Skip Brown that are desinged to fit their cups, should suit you perfectly ;D

Looking good! Will you be bringing it to RRG10? I need to dig the RG out, fit my new dampers and MOT it sometime soon.

Yeah i see what you mean, sometimes it's hard to let cars go. It would take a lot for me to sell my 205...a hell of a lot ;D

Hey all, i had a bit of an accident yesterday with my foot so i didnt feel like doing a lot but i was getting really bored at home so i went to the workshop and tried to get a few things done to the car. The first thing i did was to remove the exhaust and put the standard one back on. I was never fully happy with the new exhaust as it didnt fit properly, it looked seriously chavvy and i was concerned it would be too loud to pass a noise test at Combe. The standard exhaust sounds like a sewing machine in comparison but at least i can hear the induction noise more now ;D. I also fitted my new coolant temperature sensor in to the radiator. It doesnt seem to leak, probably due to the amount of PTFE tape i used ;D: The last thing i got done was to re-position the brake vent pipes so they are pointing at the back of the caliper now which will hopefully keep the fluid cool. I should have some more updates next week as i'm going on holiday at the end of the month and i want to have it nearly finished by the time i get back. Thanks for reading.

Hey all, i had a (relativly) free weekend so i got some work done on the 205. The first thing i wanted to do was strip all of the electrics from the car, after pestering my friend for months he's finally agreed to help me do a new loom from scratch for the car so hopefully i can finaly get rid of the electrical gremlins . Heres all of the wiring that i binned from the car and the remnants of my lunch ): Once all of that was out i wanted to clean the floor of the car as best as i could, it could really do with rubbing down and respraying but i can't be bothered with that now so a good clean was in order. I started with this: And after a bit of scrubbing and wiping it looked like this: It's pretty far from perfect but it will have to do for now. I then fitted my new bulkhead connector for the battery cable that will be going in: I also fitted the ECU in place and chucked some interior bits back in: Heres how the engine bay look atm, i still need to remove the distributor: The last thing i did was to mount the idle speed adjuster. In the past it's just been flapping around and i wanted to mount it a bit more securely. When i made the mount for the coil i left a bit of bracket on for exactly this purpose: It works perfectly too . Hopefully have some more updates next week before i go away.

Coming along nicely Mark! I'm starting work on the 205 ready for the gathering over the next few days.
A few of us from Bath Uni are looking at doing a trackday at Keevil in October / November, you should bring your 205 along!

Nice, unfourtantly I won't be making the gathering now as i've run out of money and can't progress on the car as fast as i'd like to. Keep me posted about the Keevil day though as thats something i'd definetly be interested in. Would you be bringing the 205 or the Locost?

I'm gonna give Motorsport Events a ring next week and see if they can sort us a deal. I'd be bringing the 205 if I still have it (Locost is waaaay too loud) or whatever I replace it with unless I can persuade my mum to let me and my dad borrow her Impreza STi for the day

Hey all, i'm back from my week away now and when i got home i had a present wating for me: I bought some of these from Baker BM (www.bakerbm.com) about 3 years ago which allways worked fine but after i rebuilt the beam i was torqing up the bolts and one of them snapped I phoned up Stew Baker to enquire how difficult it would be remove the snapped stud with a stud extractor to which he replied; "Ah don't bother, it'll be really hard. Just send them back and i'll send you a new pair FOC" ;D It's a credit to what a nice guy he is in that he will offer aftercare on a 3 year old product. I went to the workshop earlier and fitted them, next on the adjenda for the car is to design and make some sort of dash to mount all of the gauges and lights so i can make a start on the wiring. On another note, in my constant quest for lightness i have made a breakthrough ;D I spent last week in Magaluf eating very little, drinking a lot and doing stuff.... and i've managed to lose 5kgs in just one week Not bad methinks

Other cars that may be attending are a S1 106 Rallye, JDM Mazda Eunos, Astra 1.6 so we should have some level competition. They are lovely those BBM mounts, got them on mine

Hey all, i was having a bit of a domestic day at the workshop today ;D I gave all of my tools a good clean and greased up and serviced all of my ratchets and torque wrench. I've also been working on a new dash for the car to mount all of my gauges, i've got a cardboard template done but i need to see now if it fits underneath the dash and find a way to mount it. I also need to save up for a speedo then i can start the wiring. I also wanted to set the steering rack as i've allways had the tracking done by the local tyre place and i was concerned the rack could be out. I got the car on the stands and my suspicions were confirmed: You can see the passenger side trackrod end is noticably further out than the drivers side so i broke out the WD-40 and gave everything a clean up then i adjusted both sides so they measured 30.3mm with my trusty vernier: It seems to have given the car a shed load of toe out but i'll get the Dunlop gauges on it (when i get some ;D ) and get it back to my prefered setting of 0 Toe.

Hey, i made a new template for my dash today. It seems to fit pretty well i just need to add some holes for the rest of the warning lights. Once the template is done i'll make it out of aluminium and make some mounts for it, then i just need to save some money and buy a speedo.

Would you Adam and Eve it! I've actually done some work on the car recently. I was so broke after finishing uni i had to put the car by the wayside for a while until things picked up but now i'm earning some money (plus i can buy parts from work for a seriously low price ) i can actually get cracking on the car again. First thing i bought was a battery and mounted that behind the passenger seat: Then i bought a speedo and the magnetic pickup and put that in to the dash i've made: I still need to add one more warning light to the dash for the handbrake but that can wait. Next thing i'll be buying is some battery cable and fittings then i can hopefully get cracking on the loom

I got myself some new Xsara VTS trialing arms from AlistarH the other day (thanks again) so i took them in to work and stripped them down, then i made them a bit lighter thanks to some creative work with a grinder ;D I wanted to strip them right back to bare metal and paint them and i was curious to try the vinegar method, so i got myself a big tub and 13 litres of vinegar from Morrisons for a grand total of £2.13 ;D Bargain!, i did get some funny looks though going to the till with all of these bottles: I also blasted and painted some other bits from the beam last week: Few more bits to clean and paint then it can all go back on again.
