i was up at the Pod today and caught up with Mick Rogers while he was waiting to do a run down the strip, i have been watching him and his Matt Black MK3 Cosworth Tina for many years now, he runs some fantastic 1/4 mile times there and today was no different with 11 seconds plus at around 125 mph, it was almost the end of the days racing so the girlfriend and i sat at the end of the track while having a drink, Mick was coming down the track when he got a right tank slapper on and lost control of his Tina which went it to a roll end over end some four times and landed on his roof  , Mick crawled out from the wreckage and walked away, his car though is destroyed, my girlfriend and i spoke to him as he was leaving with his car in bits on the back of his trailer, he was shocked to hear how many times he had rolled but said he cant remember a thing, i am still amazed that Mick got out of the car after such a violent crash alive let alone drive back home some 90 miles, he said he will have some panel beating to do with a grin, I'm gutted for him but very glad that he is ok and i hope to see him racing again soon, R.I.P Tina.  |

Now that is a shame.
Spent many an afternoon at the Pod drooling watching that Tina fly up the strip.
Glad he´s ok though, hopefully the running gear will live on in something new.

I remember reading the article in SM and have loved that car ever since. Credit to his car building skills that he walked away from that.

Such a shame! It's one of my favourite cars - just so damn quick and looks so brutal! Hope he can rebuild it. And he walked away - that's the most important thing!

important thing is he is uninjured by the crash. Its a legend that car, it will be missed. Question is when you have an iconic car and its wiped out like that, do you build another the same as a clone or do something else completely different?

darn- I thought that thing was like 'Christine' and expected it to be around forever.... awesome machine. Glad he walked away - and obviously saw the lighter side.... bodywork to do Good luck Mick - as AK said - what's next? |

Mick did say that he would need a new shell as what was left of his race car was wrecked, all he wanted to do was get home and take a look at it in the morning, i knew the car was finished when a saw it going end over end, i don't know the distance from the finish line to the new sheds on the left at the end of the track but that is where he end up on his roof !
i too have watched that car for years and will really miss it, we all love going and seeing the cars down there but don't think that is going happen, we are all lucky that it's just the car that was killed yesterday.

Shame this happened, I've seen loads of that car recently  As others have said I'm glad he got out fine! Didn't see it yesterday as I wasn't at the pod, but here's a shot from last time I saw him and the cortina a few weeks ago  |

That's a propa shame. Glad he's ok tho. Testament to the strength of these cars built for the track.
One of my cars of the day. Looked like it would kill you if you looked at it funny !

Glad he's ok - never seen it in the flesh but read the article and we were drooling at the picture yesterday from the pod and the GF said it was the meanest car she ever seen! Hope he gets himself back on track with a new shell

:ogutted to hear this mick corty is the one and olny ratty i car i can honestly say i love the car wil be sadly missed if it doen't end up beaten roughly back into shape which i'm kinda expecting from mick ;D legend

when I spoke to him in the morning I said you used to use this on the road and he said " I still do " he didnt get much bother from the the local boy racers either, could you imagine having that pull along side you at the lights! i have spoken to him on the phone today and he has a couple of aches and pains but nowt to worry about, he said his head is astill on and thats the main thing, and the news is he will be back racing but that may take some time, i cant wait  |

damn realy sorry for him, gotta admit that car was the highlight of the day for me yesterday seeing the old thing run that fast, and showing my girlfriend cars don't need to look pretty to be ferrari beaters hope to see him racing again |

We were about when that happened. Just nattering up by the retro stand, and we heard noises that were not right, not loud just distant rumbles. Magnetteman immediately knew there was trouble, really spooky like his racing sixth sense or something. Mick crawled out after not a lot of time with the help of the fast professional response at the Pod and concerned onlookers. Very strange to happen to an iconic car that everyone seems to know and racing veteran. It had scooped a low 11 second quarter and there were fat tyre marks on the side where it hit the wall going through. Thank god it was well built and not a messy one. So now we know he is OK so far touch wood Is there insurance that drag racers get hold of or is it risk life and investment/pride and joy? |

no sadly no cover on the track just have to pick up the peices and rebuild its where the budgets can take the hardest hit sadly one of the big risks in racing  |

Same for circuit racers, although you can get trackday cover.
Glad he seems to be alright, does anyone on here know him? If so can you send him our best wishes. Obviously there are people on here that will gladly lend him a hand/parts/whatever to help get him back out on the track.

i heard it coming up the strip but was a distance away spun round to see him cross the line at 120mph then to hear the awful sound of smashing glass and crunching metal  everyone ran over to the fence but amazingly he was allready out ive been watching drag racing for some years now and thankfully thats the first time ive seen anything roll over also hoping its the last! real glad Mick is okay and managed to get home, shame about the tina but the fact hes okay is the main thing! |
