Uphorstery will have to wait. Did more work on the front today, a lot of scissor/pizza boxes/jigsaw/file work done mostly with my tougne sticking out of the corner of my mouth. I took it up to Alexes and held things in place while he welded. They're not perfectly symmetrical but they both match up with their corresponding panels. When I arrived at the shop I had a prototype cardboard template for the endcap valance piece but Alex said, "You cant use that template!" "Why not?" I asked. "You've used Dr.Oetker Pizza boxes, you need to use Chicago town for that kind of work really" He's a jolly chap. ;D

I got more finishing done on the parts today, ground off all the welds and cleaned up the outsides.
I also made another template for the valance corner pieces and cut one out of steel, its about half done so far.
No pics tonight but will put be doing more work tomorrow night.

I've done some more work on the corner valance piece. welded some brackets on, welded up the corner and welded it to the arch box section thingy. It needs more finishing but I just sprayed some silver paint on it to help the camera. Haha I just realised it looked like one of those 1980 toilets!

Cheers Grizz
Its bothering me because I have never done anything like this before and I don't want to ruin a nice van.

More progress today. I finished off the other endcap corner piece, then cleaned up on of the rear sides a little got the filler down a bit and cleaned off the surface rust. I also started to make a lip for the front arches, made of small plates, bit by bit. It's not finished yet. Clearance... Then I noticed there wasn't enough clearance on the front of the front tyres at a certain angle so.... I've made some closing plates to cover that up, its much better now clearance wise. I don't know how that's happened, I'm sure I checked it before, I think its just one of those things. Believe it or not that lot took the best part of 8 hours. More tomorrow.

Got some more work done today. Made some templates and started cutting and bending. (I read up on the panel making thread a bit to improve my skilzors) Then made the metal parts. Then the centre part. (not as straight forward as it looks dues to the very gentle curve in the bumper) Then clamped it all up to the bumper and welded the three parts together. It looks totally badass if I do say so myself. Its still just clamped on at the moment, theres more to do yet.

I got some stuff done today, its been difficult fitting work on the van recently with my work schedule and also fitting in with welder availibilty and not being able to grind or weld with polishing going on etc.... But Saturdays seem to work well for both of us so I am making the best of it and going back later after tea. I was running out of Mojo and stamina for the job, I've done most of the larger bits of fabrication its just the fiddley edges and fininishing off to do... Today I trimmed the rear arches to their final level. I asked Alex for his advice on where to end the arch, I added some metal to swoop the bottom of the acrh rearwards... And the other side... As plans were changing I cut this off. And cut some bedford metal out to make room for a new flatish closing plate. Thats as far as I got today, I'm going back in a bit. Also fitted one of the old steels to see how different they were...

Cheers!! ;D I have finished the fabrication of the arches today with just some finishing off here and there, I wont put up any more pics of that because they all look the same in the photos from before really. I started on the body repair, I removed the rear doors, to look at the rusty bits of panel behind the hinges. I had done some filling during last summer over some old fillerdone by the previous owner, my bodywork skills leave a lot to be desired. The worst was the offside with bad rust underneath and below the hinges. (last summer, the rear ns lower hinge situation before I stuffed it with filler) \/ It seems that water under the hinge, gets in around the screws and between the outer skin and bracing and the inevitable happens. Perhaps I went over the top but I didnt want any rust left so I cut out the outer skin on all the rear hinges and cleaned up the bracing to clean metal, I have sprayed them with zinc primer and covered the rear over with polythene until monday night. On a lighter note, I discovered this charger near to the mains hookup socket. I am gussing its to run the 12v circuit, there is also a 240 domestic double socket under the bed (that needs replacing) I will have a look at the wiring later to find out what is going on whith it all

Welded up the repair plates (Alex welded I mean) Gave them a coat of primer and parked it up. 6 hours work between chatting and dying from the heat.

Back to phase 1 for a minute, just finishing off a few bits.. Just these holes drilled and nuts welded on to the corner pieces to brace them to the front of the arch section leaving a nice even gap between each part. I also drilled a hole at the bottom that corresponds with a hole at teach end of the valance section so I can bolt it all together to give more strengh (woe betide any bunnies or pheasants that jump in the way of this one not to mention anyone who scrapes their car up it in a carpark) Also put the steels back on so I can polish the slotmags up the van looks really goofy with them on. I also noticed this.. I always assumed they were Wolfrace but never looked that closley somehow, the front ones are non genuine wolfrace (old 70s copies) it says Woolferace on the inside (2 o's)
