Hi Guys, I have been selling my records on eBay for a while now to fund a new toy. I finally have about 2k I can put towards a new car. I have narrowed down my choices (don't ask on what criteria because there is no logic!). Please help me choose. I am ony getting the car as a toy, I want a car that has potential for some light modding, mostly I want the car for crusing and taking to shows. Option 1- 1972 2 door Triumph Toledo with Dolomite Sprint engine and running gear. Very green! too green? I am not sure These cars can look as good as this - Option 2 - This lovely 1971 Saab 99. Potential for slamming and maybe even a Turbo conversion at some stage. Option 3 - Volvo Amazon. There is not a specific car that I have seen yet but was wondering if I should stick out for one. Seen this one advertised at £2.5k with new paint but weedy single carb engine. I may be pushing my budget to get a good one but loads out there. I have seen some great things done with these cars. Please vote and offer any other thoughts - but not other cars, already rejected hundreds of others. Cheers!

That particular Saab? I really like that one - I've seen that pic on here before. Looks really nice! It gets my vote although I wouldn't mind any out of that lot!

That SAAB is tempting, I've seen it for sale on the SAAB forums.
I think i prefer the looks of the Toledo though.

My mate said i was a Caravan Utilising Nomadic Tourist - not sure what he means - any ideas?

That Saab is really nice. A mate and me have been tempted by that recently. Problem was that we could not have brought ourselves to molest it in any way as it looks too good. I would vote for that, but would not be happy with the idea of modding it so will have to vote for the Toledo.

Hmm. Hard choice, because they don't all do -quite- the same thing.
Tolomite Sprint, cracking idea, whizzy whizz, braap braap exhaust note bouncing off buildings etc. Childish fun.
However if you're after a bit more comfort and restrained style, gotta be the Saab, reckon one of those would be ace for proper travelling, very civilised, especially anything 5-speeded.
Which leaves the Volvo, which is great for shows and pottering around the countryside etc.
Hmm. Ah, f*ck it. I'd choose the noisy, childish option every time.

I was torn by that. I love Amazons, but never owned one. Had 3 Saabs, so with experience of them, had to go Saab. But a Slamazon sled would be cool.

I Kinda in the same boat myself, After something retro to take to shows and enjoy at weekends and stuff, Even got the same kind of budget, plus I have a nice big bricked workshop down the bottom of my garden which is empty waiting to be filled with something.
Out of the three choices I would pick the Truimph, Looks great, even in green!, and very easy to fix and drive and get parts for.
I'd like a old Ford but have sadly been priced out of the market due to the scene tax.

Well that helps narrow his choice a little.
Another vote for the Triumph here. I owned several Dolomites in my yoof and a couple of mates had Toledos too. Quite comfy in their day, decent handling and easy to get bits for.
You might want to have a look at a brake upgrade as a priority though. They are bloody awful as standard, even overhauled.

As I said, hadn't really seen a specific Amazon but the ad for yours stuck out. Looks in great nick, bargain if it is as good as it looks. Sorry for sticking a picture up Got any plans? I have seen some wild Amazons, especially in the US, loads of potential.
