;D hi all... I have just finished an engine conversion for a corsa b 1.2 ls. droped in a 1.6 engine from a astra and installed a power steering from a corsa c. The company i was insuring the car had everything coverd before the wheels, suspension, induction, exaust system, seats. Now insurers say they can not do it anymore becase they don't have a corsa 1.6 ls on their system, so the car is now off the road till I get that sorted. Can't get the insurance because the car was not on their system, can get the details on the logbook changed because they need a mot cant get the mot because don't have insurance, its taking me in circles. i was looking around for an insurance company that can provide for a modified car. I have looked around but could you suggest any?
My 2 pence for what it's worth, i have all three cars insured with HIC! Great bunch of ppl, really understanding and open minded with mods!!
BUT watch out if u want to pay it monthly.... the finance company they use are loan sharks! I paid two of mine up front and was gonna have the last one monthly... til i realised for the £233 balance it was @ 37.7%!!!!! So i paid that one off too! lol
Yay! soo many, thanks for the help guys. will sit down and make some phone calls tomorrow for quotes. the other thing thats lurking about in my head is that. how would i have to go about if, I were to put it on classic car insurance do they provide for modified cars? because they say they can insure cars before 1995 and this is a l reg corsa one of those first ones. definately not worth putting it on monthly payments always end up paying way more then the policy o.O
ohh ok.. guess I shall scrap the idea of classic car insurance well I got some quotes and was quite impressed with some of the prices. I was also suggested eModified insurance by a mate, done a quote with them, there quite reasonable, but the only thing is I have never heard of them before, are they any good?
Thought I would put it here to save another insurance thread-
Brentacre mentioned above have done a fantastic job insuring my mini today - a good price, with breakdown and all mods - plus they will let me do any mods to the car as long as it stays under 60bhp - for no addtional premium or admin fees.
Up to now I have insured one vehicle and for the last 2 years I have had my girlfriend on that policy.
For the last year I have been with Direct line which has meant my girlfriend as a named driver has gained no claims discount.
I have now come to insure 2 cars (Passat daily and delica 'fun' car) and basically despite trouble free motoring for 18 years the second policy starts 'as new' (Damn those insurance companies!)
However (and this was suggested to me by direct line ) If I name my girlfriend as the main driver on my 'main' car (passat) the price was the same as with my full no claims... this meant i could use my full no claims on the expensive delica (halving the quote!)
I'm going to read the paperwork closely but both insurances are in my name and next year i will have extra no claims built up..
On the subject of mods, directline didnt flinch at a 2" suspension lift, but new alloy wheels added a lot... so for this year I'll be using mitsi alloys! (made my mind up for me!)
Good luck to anyone insuring, directline were not the company i expected to end up with.. so it pays to shop around!
I get so cross at the 'women are safer drivers' policy with Insurance companies. Gender shouldn't determine whether or not a person is a safer driver and it certainly shouldn't mean that if I were female my insurance would be £400 instead of £700. *grumble*
You're right though, putting your girlfriend as main driver always drops the price massively. I have no idea why since you've obviously proven yourself a safe driver while she's been the second but for some reason, jubblies give you a discount on insurance.
as theres a post fo insurance issues i guess it be good for me to put mine here lol
I'm 22 and looking to buy a supra mk3 2.0lt twinturbo to boot its a inport. thanks to my age most of the companlys iv try were like HELL no.
