Left hand side mirror?,do you have the doors with quarter light? or the one peice windows. If you have the one peice windows you just bolt on the easier to find "116" mirrors. They need a slight adjustment though.Once the mirror is bolted on,you push it backwards against the spring, you can then see the stop LUG that prevents it going back to far.i juist place a 13mm nut on thie little lug and the spring pressure holds it place. this is a 116 mirror on my 280.looks OK ,and i can see it clearly from the drivers seat.

I don't think Karls 6.3 is dodgy ,especially when you lookat this Crayford conversion, not one of their best.

the bug is actually a little bit further on than that now, more of the finish welding done. ive been at it a long time, but mostly cos i work on doing it between other projects, and cutomers and mates cars. it started out as a simple vw chassis-ed volksrod project, but i got more and more carriered away as i worked on it! i figured to correct the proportions when i chopped it i needed to shorten it too, then i needed to channel it to get it reeeeeeally low, then i replaced the rusted botton 18" with bits off a later car, then i decided a 2L type 4 just wasnt going ot be enough power for a real hot-rod............................ive started working on it a lot more recently, id like the bodywork mostly done before the end of the year, but thats pretty unlikely. tony, that would be cool, once youve got some pics, get in touch at dez@dezaster.co.uk mercmad, mine is the later style (and better looking imho- i prefer the bulbous curved lower front valance, and the ribbed rear lights, and the mirrors/doorglass). so it has integrated mirrors and one peice glass. i know a 116 can be made to kind-of-fit, but i just got this proper 115 part-numbered one for the same money as a 116 one i don't mid that 6.3, but my point is, it don't look 'factory' to me, which is what I'm aiming for.

The guy who built the "6.3" is a mate of a mate,Karl Middlehuave who mainly restores merc 600's for a living ,He's known for NOT being a purist, with his supercharged 600 ,his 600 coupe, his 600 hearse and a W112 300 Se convertible with a 6.3 which is so fast that he ripped the roof off once when giving it a bit of stick!. he's now building a 600 pickup, sort of Tuetonic El Camino!. I prefer the later door glass too,In the UK you are stuck for choice when it comes to "estate roofs," but here we have dozens to choose from, especially Fords and Holdens. But the coolest idea i saw was when a guy bought a 300 SEL roof off me to make a station wagon out of a ford falcon ,with a top chop and a sunroof in the deal !.The 300 roof is long enough to do the same with a 115,In one peice so you don't get that "lump" in the middle. And you have lots of rust to contend with to i notice.Don't have salt here ,so rust tends to be minor.

steve, silver bug was in a few weeks ago for an emergency clutch replacement- he drove to mine from balby in second! mercmad, its not actually that rusty! i needs that rear arch lip doing, and thats it really, as i have a new front wing to go on the other side, everything else more or less wipes off, ile just blast the brown bits before i paint it the only major body issue is the bonnet is dented to foooooook, pointed outwards dents, as some kids mildy vandalised it when the owner before the owner before me had it- badge snapped, bonnet and wing dented, and a side window smashed. apart from that is survived 30 years pretty well, them germans know how to build cars.
