it looks like i'm going to have to get an MOT on the cinq anytime soon and i'm considering the costs
i know the official price is £53.10 but what about retests? as far as i was aware it was free on certain areas and £25 on others - is that still the case?
also is everyone paying this amount or are some garages giving free retests or cheaper examinations?, and, more to the point are there any near me in yorkshire!
thanks ;

we pay £40 in one garage and £43 in another we use, and thats trade price!! Never pay for a retest, but then again they both normally just advise, issue the ticket and leave us to do the work required. We do all their welding for them too.

45 quid with free retests and they understand retro motors- most of the retro and aircooled vdub guys in the area use them..
Also, they've got a pit instead of a ramp, so lowness is not a problem!

I pay £38 with a free retest (whenever, within reason). not all of the customers get that service. they have a ramp, but its sunken into the floor so its at ground level, thank jebus.

We charge £30 for the initial test and if WE repair the car there is no retest fee, if YOU or someone else repairs the car there is a £20 retest fee. Remember you only get ten, thats 10 working days for your partial retest and you only get one of those! After the ten days you will need a FULL test again which is also the case if your car fails again on the partial retest.

You have to pay for an MOT? What, with money? Really? I thought all MOT's were paid for with beer...

Of the 2 garages we use, one charges £30 and the other charges £35. Both garages let you take the car home so you can fix it yourself (14 days to take it back though).

I take all mine to the local (ex) MG main dealer, £45 test fee, free retest within the 10 working days, and most importantly, they don't need to drum up work for themselves, so the fail is always sensible. In my experience down here, the places that offer cheap test fees usually try and give heavy fails on the off chance that you'll want them to do the work and if you want to do the work will charge you a re test fee.
