what to take out the car for reduced wieght

well i did this lol

-sunroof
-smaller battery
-plastic windows = cut out door frame and winder mechs = big saving
-front and rear bumper hangers
-unneeded brackets (rear seats for example)
-replace inertia reel seatbelts with harnesses much lighter
-ditch heater if you can
-as said bonnet / boot inner skins
-standard seats weigh loads compared to aftermarket buckets (25kg -> 5kg for my drivers seat!)
-go to the loo
-less silencers in the system = lighter
-de-loom and remove all unneccesary wires. The step beyond this is to manufacture a new loom with all wire thicknesses calculated to their exact current flow. removes more weight than you think!
-lightweight unsprung components eg wheels. IIRC for every 1kg you save on unsprung weight its like loosing 10kg from the car (cant remember how true this is)
-lightweight flyhweel = double whammy... lighter car and also better engine response
-punch and flare tools (or for the less well off.... a hole saw) = lightweight panels.

as you remove weight....... remember how it affects the cars balance! if its mainly removed from the rear etc.

Id never have thought of renweing the loom with a lightweight one to reduce weight but having held a a complete loom before I can confirm they're very heavy!

Owt you don't need, or more specific, anything YOU can live without (which kinda covers safety! ).

Down to preference, i do like a light car, like Twigzys Orion racer, lite as a feather
On my Sierra I seem to be adding weight Doh! but the brief for that is slightly different, adding structure and keeping comfy seats. I'll be pulling weight out of my MR2 in the future, but i don't want it to look stripped as it will be semi custom, cars can look ugly stripped, but if its all about performance go for it. Light unsprung stuff makes sense IMO wheels suspension brakes, if you have the budget.

To my 205 I have removed:

Seats (2 buckets)
Carpets
Sounds deadening
Door cards
Glass windows (polycarbonate)
Radio
Electric windows
Rear wiper
Unnecessary bits of dash
Sunroof (ali plate)
Unnecessary bumper brackets
Plastic arch guards
Seat belts (harnesses).

Have also fitted 5x13 steels with Avon ACB10s which weigh about 9kgs each all in! Standard wheels and tyres weigh 13kgs each and the KN jupiters with Yoko A021Rs weigh 16kgs each so thats quite a difference.

Next step is to remove the dash and heater, but that means sorting out all the wiring under there!

I think most of things you can remove have already been covered, but here's a few pics of the track Golf I'm building with a mate anyway. As you can see, we have removed a few things...





One big weight saving was to cut out and weld up the sunroof mechanism, needed to do it anyway to fit the roll cage

Boot floor? We don't need no stinkin boot floor...

ah, my memory said it was either 4x or 10x, but it helps with everything LOL. Doesnt have to be expensive either, even OE alloys vary a crazy amount in weight!
