anyone know anything about em? just picked this shogun up and it turns out to have a 4 pot turbo in it, aftermarket BBW or BBR ?? What i was wondering is if these engines are used in cars as well, as the shogun is a rotter i might break it and sell the turbo stuff on, not sure yet

The engine is practically the same as the 2.6 turbo lump found in starions i think. Normally the shogun ones are N/A though and don't have the same oil feeds as the starion but they can be drilled in from memory.

Had it running today, smoky but runs well enough to drive it (been standing for a few years on a farm) does get better after a while so valve stem seals or turbo seals? mind it's done 166K but no idea when the conversion was done. Only got it cos i thought i could use the carb for a pinto turbo setup, oh and it was cheap ;D

That's definitely a 4G54 Astron engine, with aftermarket turbo setup.
Same engine as found in later model Starions, some Sigmas, Sapporos and also L300s. Was also available in FWD in the aussie Magna (an abortion of a car) in MPI form.
The Astron series has been around since the late 60s so it's an old design, they are known to be rattley, burn oil, crack heads etc.
Not so easy to get alot of power out of them - the 4G63 despite being smaller in capacity is a far better engine.

I know it's a long shot but any chance of the pics in this thread being made visible again? Is the OP still on the forum? I think this shogun is the same one I own now Cheers
