be carefull if you consider a custom system by Powerflow or Longlife or similar.
whilst the material quality is generally OK, its the workmanship from dealer to dealer that varies hugely. Mine hung my system badly on the spider, it pulled the gearbox over, f*cked the output shaft & prop, & just cost me a gearbox & prop rebuild 3 years later !!!!!!

I couldnt agree with this comment more. I worked for 18months at a powerflow dealer and I saw some curse word in my time there on cars that had systems done elsewhere and had to come to us to have them put right! they were falling off, blowing, melting bumpers, knocking etc. all done from other dealers with supposedly good reputations. I know of one dealer uses inferior quality boxes (not powerflow) which crack, corrode and blow the baffles out within 3 months! these all suposedly grade 304 the best you can get with a lifetime guarantee but yet they were corroding badly and the dealers were just turning the customers away, saying they all do that (these are not powerflow boxes with these problems though!)
Powerflow products are THE best out there, as stated above it is the dealers that let them down. the best thing to do is try and find multiple examples of work by the dealer you want to use and evaluate them from that, not what salesman pitch they may use.

Its not just custom made exhausts, you try and fit an Ashley 4 branch manifold and system to a mk1 escort and see how well the curse word thing fits, and its not like they havent had 40 odd years to get it right and they are terrible even if they are cheap they should still fit!

I agree, the ones they make for the Avenger & Sunbeam are the same, they just don't fit, you have to cut them and reweld to make them fit as they should

the escort manifold needs attacking with a large lever to get the bolts to line up on the head and then the rest needs modding so the pipe runs down the centre of the car AND the rear mount has to be moved.

Indeed. The bloke at Powerflow in Leek Staffs was the biggest tosspot I've ever had the misfortune to meet. In contrast, the Powerflow guy at Stafford was superb.

have you been lloking under my car? the powerflow on the senny is wa nk too. doesnt quite follow the right path so its sits too low in some places and nits the floor in others. only needs a few little tweaks but with them itll fit sooo much better , and it consistently falls off the mounts every couple of weeks cos they're in totally the wrong place. reminds me, i really need to sort it out before it falls off properly!

Someone just remind me again why the Volvo forum had to shut down...? If a poster can prove poor workmanship from a company then theres no problem. Most you'd recieve is a threatening letter from the company, nothing would come of it... and if anything did come from it all you'd have to do is prove what your saying is based on fact and it'd get thrown out. Ergo they wouldn't bother taking it to court, they just know the general public will panic when a sternly worded letter signed by a solicitor lands on their doorstep.

Where Powerflow in Leek is concerned, they're lucky it's not me taking them to court, not the other way round.

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Someone just remind me again why the Volvo forum had to shut down...? The powerflow bloke at Leek would have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he wasnt a tosspot, this seems unlikely.

ive said this bit before but bear with me... " I'm no expert but..." i have no idea how the exhaust can move the gear box... manual labour would be needed.

i guess if the exhaust don't hang right it could pull the engine over on an angle, it don't take much to move the box out of alignment and if you don't have a UJ on the prop at the back of the box it can destroy the bearing very quickly.

Am I missing something... how can the exhaust 'pull the gearbox over'?? on the spider the 1st exhaust mount after the down pipes is attached to a bracket, which attaches to the gearbox & front prop coupling bearing. the exhaust wasnt positioned correctly so it was always pulling the bracket over to the left - thus pulling the rear of the gearbox & front of prop out of allignment & over to the left.
