Hello ond welcome! Sounds like a really cool idea - those Alfa V6 lumps don't get used enough IMHO. Remind me... is the R9 the one with the boot? Or the one that got wrecked at the hands of James Bond? I always get those two mixed up! Free cars are always good! ;D Alternatively, how about keeping it "in the family" so to speak and sticking in a Renault V6? Just an idea!

Kwality idea! Those reno 9's are the dullest vehicle known to man, a rip-snortin' Alfa V6 one would be ace! especially in hearing aid beige.
Thats sounds like a lot of work though. As for your renault V6, in the 25 they are mounted longitudinally but still fwd. for a transverse fwd application of the same motor check the Peugeot 605 or Citroen XM or possibly ..... the Renault Safrane...... I think...?

Rev's pic is indeed a 9, they were a booted version of the 11. there must be loads of V6 XM's and 605's in the scrappys now. Even better you could probably pick up a complete car for peanuts and get all the loom, driveshafts etc thrown in.

Hmm, not heard about any reliability issues with em. But then again Alfas aren't exactly bullet-proof either are they?! I think the kit-car boys like the Ren V6 - might be worth having a scout around the kitcar sites to see what they do with them... or ask Locoster here on R-R to point you in the right direction.

Unreliable?! Not at all, it's a Douvrin engine if it's the same one as the DeLorean DMC-12 had, which was co-developed by Volvo if I remember right, and was used in various Volvos, up until the 960, which ended production in the mid 90s. It was developed in the days when Volvo actually cared about being bullet proof, (as opposed to just idly boasting that their cars are when they're not really), so they wouldn't have associated with it if it'd been that unreliable!

Oh no! We've started Rev off about Volvo 760's now!! ;D Dare say you could get a running Safrane for c0ck all money (if those had the same V6?!). Designed completely by computer apparently. Sure designers around the globe were quaking in their boots when they saw the jaw-dropping Safrane! If it is the same as the 760 then yeah those engines are pretty robust, but drink fuel!

Your idea is stupid what do you think of this droppin a rover v8 into a proton se i have a proton and its blinged out to the max Why is it stupid? Nobody mentioned "bling" anywhere here. The Renault 9 is well and truly a retro car, and sticking a big engine in there is what modifying classics is all about. I dare say in ten years time people will be building Rover V8 powered Protons as they become rarer and it'd be something different from the norm. Why not contribute something constructive to the forum instead of pointlessly flaming people?
