I hate to tar people with the same brush. But! I bet it's been bangered. Looks a bit ropey, never been restored, easy target, sadly

I can only see that car being stolen for one use. Where's his local track?

you lot are on drugs, from the state of it i would say the local council have probably took it cos its an eye sore. thank god, beleive it or not, not every car stolen is banger drivers. although did hear a rumour one of them is preparing to race the ferrari enzo he nicked last month. OUTRAGEOUS

I doubt that's been taken for racing, (a) because Dolomites aren't often used for it, (b) because there's enough 1300s available for nothing or for such a pittance (look on Ebay - an MOTd one just sold for £80) that stealing one isn't necessary and (c) because if they were going to take one they'd go for one that looked solid and not as if it'll disintegrate as soon as it gets touched.

Good points actually chaps, I was thinking rather that it's unlikely to be an 'in scene' theft as the car doesn't exactly look like it'd be worth a lot for parts.
I don't think for a second that all stolen cars are banger raced, as this stolen section part of the forum is proving theft amongst the classic community is actually scarily common. In fact I'm offering a full apology for my stupidity in not even thinking about the council angle! D'oh!

Wonder if it was on 'agreed valuation'? If someone did nick it & drive it away they must have been pretty foolhardy - a car looking like that is sure to attract the Rozzers attention no matter who / how it's being driven.

I'm not saying were all innocent just highly unlikely in this instance, if you follow link aswell witnesses say it was taken on a recovery lorry, a banger racer would probably have just hiabed it on his lorry, think the council might actually be to blame

Dolomites are no good for banger racing, no good at all!! Any banger driver who would steal a dolly to race would have to be extra stupid. More than likely its been lifted and weighed in.
Can we get this banger racer witch hunt under control now please?

Can we get this banger racer witch hunt under control now please? I think we are... rash statements are quickly retracted... work with us on this. It's good to explain why something wouldn't be suitable for banger racing. If a Mk2 Granny gets Hiab'd on to a truck then fingers going to point at bangers, that is something I don't think you'll ever get rid of. But if something like this gets stolen, up until recently I'd have probably thought bangers, but having had it explained what makes sense to steal and what doesn't then I don't think that way any more. So keep us informed and educated and we will continue to be able to form more rational views

Ok, sorry I read my post back to myself and it did sound a bit harsh.... Basically, anything pre70, or more often pre 68 could be targetted for "classic" banger racing, especially if its RWD, but they would have to be they type of car that have some beef about them, old farinas, P5 Rovers or similar. This dolly is too new to be used for a special classic banger day and too old to be competitive with the modern stuff, not to metion they were never that good at racing anyway. If it had been a mk1 or 2 granny or a Westminster then id say it had been hiabled away for racing, but I'm sure that this car hasnt been taken for this reason. Perhaps some local pisshead needed a lift home? Could be the old problem of joyriders come back to haunt us. They go for the old tin now as they're so easy to steal compared to new cars.

They go for the old tin now as they're so easy to steal compared to new cars. Yup yup, modern cars are stolen by more organised people it seems, which leaves the joy rider and the scally getting home from the pub to steal the older cars. My friends old Nova got stolen and driven about half a mile before being dumped, door all bent, ignition all mashed up. Simply so someone could get home from the pub apparently!

I think somone could steal my oxford quicker without the keys than with them. All you need to do is pop the bonnet, put a live to the coil and press the mechanics overide on the starter solenoid and away you go....
I don't think id leave it parked anywhere. Maybe I should get a huge chain and padlock and chain it to a lamp post next time I'm out in it, lol

As for dolomites getting raced..... where theres a will etc. PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT SAYING THIS YELLOW ONE HAS BEEN NICKED FOR RACING. Amazing that something which frankly looks such a pile of s**t would get nicked, my money is on it being weighed in for beer tokens.

Back in 2002 I had a blue Dolomite 1300 stolen from outside where I was living in Middlesbrough. I informed the police, and they phoned my later the same day to tell me it had been found dumped in the car park of a block of flats no more than 2 miles away from where it was nicked. They didn't even try to make enquiries about WHO took it, just told me to go get it myself. When I went to get it, I found it had been hotwired, and the steering lock broken. A resident of the flats said it was dumped by 4 lads aged about 12. They had also levered the lock barell out of the door.
Anyway, as I had some scrap Dolomites, I had it back to normal within a day.
But around the same time there used to be a guy down south who advertised in classic car weekly. He was a keen Dolomite banger racer who used to offer clean doors and panels to classic car people for free in exchange for rusty panels that were good enough for his race cars. Quite a good idea if you ask me.

Looks like Dollys DO get bangered after all! Ok, maybe ill have to backtrack a little.. Dollys do get raced but are not the kind of cars that are worth nicking to race, if that makes any sense? I havent seen a Dolomite on the track for aaaages though.
If the owner of this Dolly had rung round all the local scrap metal weigh bridges to see if a yellow Dolomite had been bought in there would have been a good chance of catching the crooks as you need an account to weigh in scrap, an account with a name and address.........
Got to be too late for that now though.

Don't need an account round here They just ask you your vehicle registration number (I ask you? ?) and then you weigh it all in Pay you cash and ask for a name and address for the reciept records!!!

Our local place you slap it on the weighbridge, and the bloke puts the money in your mitt. Just like that. I have to confess that as a lad I (& cohorts) used to pull stuff out of the back of the scrappy through a hole in the fence, walk it round the front and sell it back to them....
