Hi, Just come across this board and after having a nosey around thought I would pop up some pictures of my two cars. 1st one is a 1989 GTI 8v, don't really have any great plans for this one other than leaving it standard (not sure if that fits with what Retro rides is about). Then I have this one previous owner Vauxhall chevette, really torn as to what to do with this. body wise it will stay standard and hopefully get a full respray early next year ££££££££, but I am not sure which way to go with the drivetrain, I would liek more power but keeping it useable daily. So will have to wait and see.

Welcome on board,.. we like stock cars as well as modified ones ... don't be offended if someone tells you that the Chevette would look better lowered with XE power though ... Nice rides btw, well done on the one owner Chevette find.

I'll look into the XE conversion as its been a while. Cost and company to do it for me will be key.
It has to be standard from the outside though

Goof looks clean, get it on some decent wheels and leave it I say.
Nice shovit too, bumperless and give it major stickage would look the shizz, 2.0 8v, pinto or zetec could be cheaper choices?

Bumperless looks the curse word to me, and i don't mean that in a good way, hehe Looks like you`re missing parts You could go for a CIH conversion, just to be different? Looks hella good to me at least I don't know if your Vauxhall Carlton (opel omega) ever got the 2.4 CIH engine over there, but they are nice and torquey, and if you use a cut down 3.0 intake with 3.0 throttle body, along with a pointier cam and better exhaust, you should end up with a pretty nice engine Lots of middle range torque

5 door GTI is far less common than the 3dr, probably too family orientated. Which is why I bought it so I could get the kids in easy.
Off to search the web now for engine conversions for Chevette.
Cheers for the comments all

The Chevette is back from a complete respray and looks cool. Will be at RR08 with it looking very grandad spec.
I have some Rostyle wheels I would like to fit, they currently have 175 tyres. They need a refurb and I would like to look at getting them banded professionally if I can find somewhere in Midlands to do it.
Questions then, What size banding can I go for and retain 175 tyres (I'm tight an dthe tyres are nearly new) ;D 2nd Anyone know anywhere in the Birmingham ish area that does banded wheels as well as refurb?
Cheers

Hey mull, give me a shout if ya find someone to band those wheels, ive got a set of rostyles that just crying out to be done. Can't find anywhere down south either. If it helps i've been told Chevit wheels are 5j so a 2in band should squeeze under the arches, 175's will strech but depends what profile? 70/65 or 50 series.

The MK 2 Carlton's in this country (Opel Rekord E??) went up to 2.2 with the CIH block. The Mk3 Carlton (Opel Omega A) only had the CIH in 3.0 & 2.6 dual ram form.

Cheers the Piaza engine sounds loads of fun, truth is I don't know which way to go. Plan for this year is to run it til end of Oct, then off road for wheel refurb and suspension drop. Looking winter 09 at earliest before the engine gets any attention.

Ok long overdue and will be visible in the metal at RR08, hope you like. Love getting out and about in it now and listening to the only MW station I can bear ;D ;D ;D The downside though is due to a change in circumstances the car may have to go, and I won't be in a position to replace for the foreseeable. I'll probably test the water over the next month or so and see if I can get the money I think the car deserves.
