Last time I posted on here I think I still had my Manta GTE (hence my username) and I was working on my Volvo 360 GLT. Well things have changed since then. The Manta got sold for various reasons and was replaced with a Citroen BX 16v. Then I got another 16v as a project which I did up with a mate and sold on for a bit of a profit. At the same time I've also had my Volvo 360 GLT which I've been attempting to liven up a bit, and that project was plodding along slowly. That was until a few months ago when a car I had been lusting over for years popped up at the right price. After much hard thought I decided the Volvo would be sold in favour of something a bit more hardcore. And so, the Rover 3500SE arrives: I got it fairly cheap with a short MoT, but it only needed a bit of work to get it through, namely 2 tyres and new front dampers. On the plus side it has a stainless steel exhaust (sounds amazing), it's slightly lowered, has spax dampers (although, as I said the front ones needed replacing), polybushed suspension, came with a few spares and huge history file containing every MoT and the original bill of sale. And I love it!! I've done a bit of work including polybushing the gearchange assembly, fitting new pads, new TCAs and new steering gaiters, fixing some interior leaks, a general service and some other minor tidying so far. It really needs a good tune up as it stalls a lot when warm and shoots flames when you give it some welly! But I shall get that done soon. I've also got a Mountney steering wheel to go on (current wheel is massive!) and also a Vitesse spoiler to smarten up the back end. And a list of other minor jobs to sort out! But I'm getting there, and I'm enjoying working on it. There's a few more pics (and a rubbish video) here: www.carlgibbs.com/gallery/main.php/v/mycars/sd1/As for the other cars, the Volvo still isn't sold ans is awaiting some welding so I can MoT it before selling it. And the BX is sat unloved in my garage with no tax or MoT. I'm attempting to seel it at the moment, but if there's no takers I'll try and fix it up ready for me to use over the winter, so the Rover can get wrapped up in the garage! So there we go, a quick update on my automotive life! Cheers Carl

Absolutely lovely car! I want one of those some day. Regarding your engine problem, that sounds like ignition timing to me. Or maybe the mixture is too fuel rich. Keep those pics coming! "I'm"

Excellent! I presume the SE means its manual? Reminds me of the 3.5 VP I had, which, being auto was sh!t slow. At the time I knew someone who had a manual V8 SD1 with a big bore exhaust which went like a rocket. Wish I wish I'd still got mine and converted it to manual.

Thanks for the comments guys! It started life as an auto, but at some point was converted to a manual, which suits me perfectly The figures for the car don't look to impressive - 155bhp from 3.5 litres, but it goes surprisingly well considering it also weighs 1400kg! The exhaust does sound great too - check out the vid in the link, it's rubbish quality but it demonstrates the noise quite nicely!!

Don't forget the monstrous 2000 versions. They struggled to hit 100...

I love these, my uncles had a couple of them when I was a kid. Riding in the back of them was a world away from my parents mk2 escorts.

Thanks guys. Never owned a car that so many people appreciate - makes a change Currently got a few little extras to put on soon including some series 1 clear indicators and a smaller Mountney wheel. Plus some new gauges and switches from Rimmer Brothers to iron out some electrical gremlins! And it finally looks like we're getting some sun in the coming week so may also get the chance to wash and polish her - so hopefully I'll have some updated pics soon! There was also a 2.4TD version BTW.

Nice example of the 5 door Daytona! Series 1 clear flashers will look the danglers. As would a set of Vitesse cross spokes.

Decided it's time to update my thread... Done a bit of work on the SD1 since my last post. Decided to have a go at tuning the Strombergs - first of all I fitted a manual choke and dumped the crappy auto jobbie, then renewed the diaphragms in the carbs and then hooked the car up to a gas analyser to see what we could do. We got it running much better, it no longer stalled and it seemed to be a fair bit quicker which was nice. However I then discovered it ran curse word from cold when I started it a few days later. Ah well, it's an improvement!! I've also fitted the smaller steering wheel, so I can now fit in properly and it doesn't feel like I'm driving a bus!! So here's a few updated photos: The car is now locked up in my garage hibernating for the winter. In the spring I'm considering a 4-barrel carb conversion, but that depends if I can save up enough money!! I may just look for a pair of SUs te replace the strombergs and the money saved can be spent elsewhere (new gearbox possibly). We'll see. And to replace the SD1 I'm now using a Volvo 850 T5 Estate that I got cheap. Quite an amusing car, but not really sure if it's retro enough for it's own thread

The bodywork is too bad TBH. Wings are certainly ok. I seem to have collected quite a few spares over the past few months, but I'm always on the lookout for useful parts. Off the top of my head I could do with a new gear stick cover and surround, a decent Vitesse rear spoiler (I've already got one but it needs some TLC), some S1 indicators and probably a few other little bits too. Need a gearbox too, but that will have to wait for a bit! And yeah, my gloveboxes and footwells filled up with water when it rained. Now fixed the sunroof drains and also re-sealed the windscreen. Still not quite water tight, but almost there!!
