Been busy refurbing the "wood" to go on. Ive done around half of it. Soon the cars going into the body shop to lose the side strips and have the resulting holes migged up. I think I may do the infill area in white ash instead of the standard teak look for a lighter, different appearance. Some pics of a standard Woody so you get the idea! Before...... ......and after. Tailgate panel Also got ye olde roofracke. Mainly alloy construction so will be flat and polished and the black plastic covered cross bars replaced with stained and lacquered wood.

Thanks for positive reactions to the car. Yes robinxr4i, they are Lotus steels (with Mk1 Zephyr caps). They are about to be replaced with the same but 8x13 rear and 6x13 front instead of the 5.5s on there now. Mowzer, its lowered 2" rear and 3" front. The roof is going to be repainted white but with some silver & white flake and a light scattering of green flake. Heres a couple of more pics: Motor is low mileage Escort Mexico1600GT x/flow with brand new Weber and electronic ignition. Interior original column change (box rebuilt with 2000E internals) and benchseat. Grant green metalflake steering wheel. Pulls caravan to shows too!

I always thought that VHT paint was never the best for a 'long term' finish ?? Is the finish still as good now as it was when you first painted it ? Only i've got a manifold and was thinking about getting it powdercoated but it would be cheaper using VHT paint as long as it lasts..

Got the wood on the tailgate today, mainly to see how it looks and how easy it is to apply. Went on really well and I'm very pleased with the result. Cant wait to get the sidestrips removed and welded up so I can to the rest! May have a lighter "wood" in the panels but not sure yet - thats why I wanted to put some on so I could get a better idea. As it is now its roughly the colour of "woods" that they were from the factory. What do you guys think? Are these colours about right or would it look better with maybe white ash in the infill panel?

I think stove-enamelling is supposed to be very good.

I reckon the wood works so far, quite a nice contrast with the green and the light/darker wood tones. Having said that, it might also work well with a slightly lighter infill wood tone such as the white ash. It's going to look well cool when it's woodified, that I am sure about. ;D
