hi all, the 440 is getting a bit tired and the police have decided that it was my fault they crushed the 480, so i fancy a change. calibra retro or a bit sad ;D

On the cusp. In a few years probably... Despite being a Cavalier Coupe they were quite stunning when they came out, far better than the Probe.
A friend of mine has got one, and we've talked about turning it into a salt-flat-racer style one - moon discs, red banded or whitewalled tyres, the shape is perfect for it!

Fair point, the barry boy thing was bothering me too.
As far as the crushing goes its a long story. suffice to say they claimed letters were sent to me that i never received and phone calls were made by me that i never made.

He He, I'll have to post a picture up of my mate's Barried up Calibra - it was kind of cool when he first had it, but he's had for years & now we're all older and wiser & its a bit of an embarrasment for him - abit like having a bad tatoo  I wouldn't say that the Calibra is 'Retro' but I really like the shape - so long as its standard - though a spot of lowering and carefully chosen wheels wouldn't go amiss I think the FWD 16v is the one to go for as the're pretty nippy but don't have the transfer box problems of the 4x4s - they all suffer from bland handling and typical weird Vauxhall driving position. I dreamed of owning a Turbo one, when they first came out. |

very hard to not turn into a barrymobile... i'd say not yet retro but can nevertheless be a suitable chariot for those who appreciate the non-barry. my thoughts would be running on simple wheels, maybe some black 16" five-spokes, just remove excess body trim like rubbing strips and badging. then leave it. don't bodykit it, don't go for bigger wheels than standard, leave the lexus lights on the lexus and any more than one tailpipe is a waste. and don't get a red one as it'll be pink come the summer they're not bad cars though, a lot had leather/aircon/toys and the turbo motor is a cracker. this is good:  however i had to hunt through thousands of images to find a nice one

the only decent one ive seen was a v6 rwd converted one from germany or austria..
the rest well sadly they are crappy tat as far as i am concerned, bland shape bland set of driving wheels bland boring rubbish

Theres one near me that the guys had for about four years. When he first got it it was super low on black BBS crossspokes and looked the curse word. Over time its grown an ironing board on the boot and one of those hidious klingon bonnets and now looks like a load of curse word.
I rekon keep it simple and concentrate on the engine mods and you could have a very cool car indeed.
Personally though, I wouldnt want one.

A buddy of mine, bought a stolen and recovered 2 litre, was a bit of a dog.
He put a new column and lock set on it, bought a set of League rims for it and fitted some drilled discs and greenstuff pads from his Astrarse race car and cleaned it up nicely.
It looked ok for a Calibra, black body and black leather, still not retro IMHO, maybe one day, it did go some though.
He sold it for £1200, he must have had 50 calls for it so I guess they are pretty popular.
