So.... time for an update I guess.. I still haven't made any progress on the volvo and opels. I suck. Mot time for the BMW.... Left rear brake cilinder leaky, drum knackered. Exhaust leakage again. Co at idle about 4.5%, can't get it lower at idle, at 3000 rpm a neat 0,4%. Two tires worn under 1,6mm. So since the body of the bmw isn't great either, dented and rusty, I don't know if I should fix it all, buying another one would probably be cheaper. So while searching the net for a replacement I thought it might be a good idea to buy another problemcar and sell it with profit. I found a Suzuki Vitara, low mileage, no rust in very good technical condition. Only problem being a blown head gasket, or at least that's what the previous owner thought. When cold the Vitara ran very good but sometimes it would stall and not run for about half an hour. After a few hours I found the only problem was a clogged up fuel filter. ;D So at the moment I'm driving the Vitara and although I was planning to sell it straight away, I actually quite like it. I'm even thinking of keeping it now and do a nice lift and fit some 31" tires. Maybe matt black it. Oh, and yes it's stuck in the last pic. First test drive totally unprepared in the middle of the night in a forest I really wasn't supposed to drive . After a few hours of digging we had to leave it there for the night, next day we got it out with help of a nice farmer and his huge 4x4 tractor which almost got stuck itself.

I DO take you seriously, but no offence taken. You're right actually and your Kadett is a very good inspiration. This morning on the way to work I realised the Vitara really isn't my kind of car. It's way too slow and has a lot of annoying little things you can't deal with if you're used to german cars and especially bmw. Vitaras are chick cars anyway. But the moyo and the money to get on with my other cars aren't there yet. Last week I was even thinking of making the kadett original again, with the stock springs, 12" diagonal tires, and put the original seats and carpet back in. Then sell it. Ouch.

your kadett looks very clean. any chance of some more pics when you have chance? don't sell it, you'll regret it! early kadett c1's (74-77ish) are very rare in the uk. we have to look to germany and the netherlands if we need certain parts for kadetts these days. good luck with your cars, nice collection.

I knew I couldn't be that lucky. Was driving in a cloud of smoke this evening with the Vitara, oil everywhere. After pulling the cam belt it turned out to leak from in between cylinder head and block. Pulled the rocker cover to discover a head bolt had come loose, knackered thread in block. The engine probably never reached operating temperature after the previous owner replaced the head gasket because of that other problem. So... took the head off, gonna try to place a helicoil tomorrow or bore the hole to M12 instead of M10. Well after all this it got 9:50pm and I had to leave at 10 because the workshop closes at ten. Jumped in the BMW which had been standing at my work for two weeks to find it had a flat battery. Ran back inside to get the battery pack. Pfff, come back outside all sweaty and try to start again, still no go. Engine flooded. I took the service van home now and hope for better luck tomorrow. Here are some more pics of the 'dett Carlos, helps for some positive thoughts as well. Over here in the netherlands the c1 in coupe form is getting pretty rare as well. Most were converted to c2, most people like the c2 better. Not me though, I really prefer the c1. I'll show some pics of how I found it(30594 km(!)), those are the dusty ones. The pics where its on the mim rims is shortly after, no changes except wheels and a good wash, had to drive a few hundred miles and on 6*12 diagonals the drive is pretty curse word. Further I'll show some pics pre and aft lowering. And some of a local meeting.

Allright, have been working on the Vitara today. Bored the hole out and placed an extra long helicoil. Replaced headgasket and put it all back together, have driven about 20 miles since and all seems well. Gonna drive it a few hundred miles to make sure it stays ok and sell it then. I have a few potential buyers allready even before advertising and although I've put quite some time and a little more money than planned in it I'm still looking for a €400 profit. Time well spend. Maybe I'll try to do this kind of thing a little more often till there's enough funds to get on with my classics.
EDIT: sold the Vitara! Pretty fun convertible for two weeks of nice weather and made my profit.

thanks for more pics. kadett looks to be very good. a very good find, well done. amazing km's too! hardly used. sorry to hear of the bad luck with the vitara, but every experience gives us more knowledge for the future, eh? and if you make profit, even better! ;D
my washer bottle and horn are under drivers wing, battery in the boot, and cables run under wings etc. simple enough but effective. i wanted it to look as clean and smooth as possible under the bonnet. not neccasary for an everyday car but mine will be for shows when its finally finished.

Time for another update. Well, it was time for an update a long time ago but i've been pretty busy with other things lately. Within a week after selling the Vitara, I came across and had to buy another car. Maybe I shouldn't have been looking at those cars for sale sites It's an Opel Manta B with an Ascona front and a 3 liter straight six in a very bright yellow. ;D Funny thing is I never liked the color yellow and I'm not to fond of the Irmscher spoilers but again, as with the BMW, it's starting to grow on me. Things I did to it so far: when I bought the Manta it was only running on LPG, but since the LPG wasn't registered and with the new rules for registering LPG (you would need a brand new system) that had to go. Unfortunately getting it to run on petrol proved to be a lot of hassle. After weeks with a multimeter and scope and searching the internet I found the problem to be all six injectors had the wrong partnumber which broke the injection computer. After replacing the injectors and computer and tuning the clockspring of the airflow meter it's running beautifully now. I got the engine running only three days before the deadline which was a driftday in Papenburg (Germany) on October 15th. The driftday was a lot of fun btw, in the wet the only way for this car is sideways. ;D The standard grill was placed forward to make room for the radiator which really didn't look good. I made another grill which is a lot thinner and could be placed a few centimetres further back and I think it's a lot better like this. Time for some pictures now: Things I still need to do are fabricating another exhaust as this one is too close to the ground and it's waaaay too loud. The sound is nice but the car draws enough attention as it is and it's causing me headaches on long trips. The lower part of the front valance is missing, not very hard to find another one but I need to replace the exhaust first so I can lower the back of the car some to get some ground clearance for the front valance. (hope that makes sense , otherwise take a deep breath and read that sentence again ;D) The engine bay needs some tidying up as well but first things first.
