No licence or insurance for 70 years?

70 years no insurance, what a saving he has made

I'm guessing he's had insurance and just never had a knock, I've not been asked for a licence number until recently online, and if he's got 50 odd years no claims any other insurer he goes to probably wouldnt question it.

You’d not manage it now. If he’s done it 70 yrs he started in the early 1950’s, you could argue it would be very simple for say the first 50 of those due to the lack of system checks, anpr etc. But I’d say he’s dodged a bullet for the last 20.

Only if the car is registered in the name of the person with no licence. The people I know all have the cars owned and documented in their partners name.

I swapped vans, maybe around 2009, and got confused… went to MOT it and it had run out 6 months earlier (I was going to mot the new van when the old vans mot would have been) I did about 15000 miles all over the place, motorways, centre of London how that didn’t get picked up I don’t know

I also know a few people who have done similar to get vehicles on the road when they can’t (or can’t afford to) in their own name.

I knew a builder who had been disqualified and his van was insured and registered in his labourers name, who didn’t even have a driving licence.
It’s only very recently insurers have started asking to see your licence when taking out a policy.

Another was insured on his bosses fleet policy. If ANPRed the van came back as taxed, tested and insured. You would have to get stopped by the police and asked to prove your identity before they were even aware there was anything amiss.

It’s not at all unusual to see tractors, other farm machinery, farm hack pickups/land rovers/tippers/quad bikes and motocross bikes that don't even have number plates or lights out in the sticks.
The old boy in our village who used to go around on a grey fergie with a gang mower on the back doing all the local football pitches and sports grounds told me that although it had number plates on it wasnt even registered with the DVLA let alone taxed! Bear in mind I’d seen him on it at least 7 miles away from where he lived and there was only one road to go down to get there, it’s not like he was shy about it.
It really is a totally different way of life to what it’s like in a town or city, and there’s a huge aspect of ‘greater good’ to it.

Given these vehicles were driven in largely rural areas where it would be entirely possible to drive for an entire year without ever actually seeing a copper, I think the whole thing is quite possible.

When driving tests/Licenses where first introduced if you said i have been driving for ages they just had to give you a license with no test so he probably feels he is entitled to drive as he has always driven, on the news it said he had driven since he was 12 which is the same as my late father in law. I bet not all insurance companies ask for a license number because if you don't have one they cant have your money if they don't ask they get your money then just void your insurance and keep your money.

Think its remarkable given how many cameras of various sorts you see around Nottinghamshire, and Bulwell isn't rural(where I could see that being feasible to dodge cameras for a while)...article shows a late model mini, so amazed there wasn't a stack of RFL charges against him.🤔
